I place Natalie in the same catagory as Sting: Oustanding songwriter, who does their best work in the framework (and ego control) of a group.

I love The Wishing Chair, In My Tribe and Blind Man's Zoo, but any of her solo stuff---blah....

I agree. I like Sting with the Police and Natalie with the Maniacs much better than any of their solo stuff.

Natalie has avery nice voice but it gets tiresome once you listen to her over and over again.

The Wishing Chair is the best especially My Mother The War

Our Time In Eden is very good. I like all songs.

Natalie is more of a pop singer than a New Wave singer. [:D]

I had really high hopes for 10,000 Maniacs when I bought [i]The Wishing Chair[/i]. Two songs from that album - "Scorpio Rising" and "My Mother the War" are still really [b]awesome[/b] tracks that are atypical of their other stuff. In fact, I just downloaded "My Mother The War" about a month ago after not having heard it in years, and it is still a really great tune.

I thought they would sort of go the way of more indie than commercial folk-crap. So, I was rather disappointed and lost interest very quickly. I can't stand her solo stuff.

"Scorpio" was one of the first Maniac songs I've ever heard. I, too, thought they were more indie rock, but yeah, it was kinda a bummer they went more alternative-lite. Oh well.
