MTV used to be one channel - now it's a network with several MTV channels, several VH-1 channels and CMT. MTV2 (when they aren't playing hip-hop) and VH-1 classic are great. You can't compare the original MTV channel to today's. They play a lot of great

I heard that some famous rapper recently married a VJ from MTV. How can you have VJs if you don't play videos? Or am I just not watching that 30 minute slot at 4AM?

MTV stands for MEDIOCRE Television, right?

Did they play music videos, or something at some point?

Here's a question :
For most of us in the original NW era and the very begining of MTV, are there any of you who were teenagers in the early 80's who like MTV now?

Coolschool,
I was a preteen when the original MTV aired, and I did watch a lot of it at the time. I watched all the shows like "Remote Control" and MTV did show less mainstream programming. I hate to admit it, but I did watch it until a few years ago.

I want to be a cool mom, but I do watch what my kids are watching, even more than my parents did(they were kind of hippies). It is a different world than when we were preteens and teens, with a lot more dangers. It was cool to grow up when we did, and t

Reflections on MTV Then:
Back in 1983-84 I worked customer svc & tech support for a local 'mom & pop' CATV company.
The monitors in the office were ALWAYS set to MTV. The music videos back then were 99% NU Wave era acts: Big Country, Culture Club, Devo
