I've been listening to 4 out of 5 Doctors' self-titled album, for the first time, over the last couple of days.
It is really good.
Opus 10/I Want Her is awesome. Mr. Cool Shoes sounds like a long lost Elvis Costello song. Other great songs are Elizabeth,Modern Man, and waiting For a Change.
On the whole, the album has a bit of a Joe Jackson-feel to it.
Does anyone know anything about this group and/or why they didn't ever get more popular than they did?

They did a horror film (in which they had, like, 30 minutes of screentime). For a band who sold very little, I think that's quite a lot.

I have this one too. I don't think I've listened to it in over 25 years. I might have to pop it back on my turntable after your glowing review.
The only song I remember clearly is "Jeff Jeff" since that's my name.

I love both their albums - Anna With Antennae is one of my favorite songs - great bassline.

I never cared for the "tinker toy molecules" cover. Now the two-headed doctor cover...
Beyond the artwork, I don't love "2nd Opinion" the way I love the first one, but there's some good tracks on there that hold up well. Namely "Waiting for Roxanne" and (to a lesser extent) "Anna with Antennae." "Never Say Die" is decidedly not new wave. Decidedly isn't very good, either.
