I am amazed at conversations I hear around me (my colleagues, friends, strangers in coffee shops) where this is debated. As if there is anything to debate about ! But it seems that folks are pretty divided on this.

Certainly, whites are getting the opposite end of the stick now a days, HOWEVER, it is minorities (especially blacks) who are the most familiar with that proverbial end (of the stick). It would take me several long paragraphs to explain to you why they are being held back, how their history of being enslaved is a part of that, and what subtle but mammoth battles they still fight today. I'm fascinated to learn more about how white people are the most likely to be "victims" of racism. Maybe you're referring to all of those white people being lynched, being used as slave labor, not being able to use their native languages or practice their native religions. Maybe its the wide swaths of largely useless land that whites are being forced onto when their homes are taken from them. Maybe you're referring to the families being torn apart when children and parents are being sold to different families.

I just read that in california and texas, whites are now officially the minority to hispanics. Texas for sure maybe it was just Los Angeles and not all of California. I see where Motors is going with all this. As a Californian I have to say I'm fed up with all the Illegals draining our system and putting a strain on our economy. And I'll agree with Motors about not spouting off statistics. One of the few things i do agree with Ann Coulter is we need to arrest every illegal put them on a bus or a boat and ship em back to wherever it is they snuck over here from. Yes, but remember Ben, they're there to do the jobs American's don't want to do or won't do.

I've seen a similar thing happen here. The transportation industry has been a magnet for new arrivals to Canada for years. In order to make themselves more attractive to employers, many would agree to work for $3.00 to $5.00 less than the going rate for the work. Employers jumped at the chance to cut staffing costs and improve the bottom line, at the risk of higher accident & insurance costs, as these people had less driving experience. Unionized outfits had an increasingly tough time competing because of their set pay rates etc.

Over the course of a number of years, the pay rate for drivers stagnated and went from a reasonably well paying blue collar job to one just slightly upside of that of cab driver.The net result has been many who used to drive got out of the industry because in their opinion the pay wasn't reflective of the work involved.

The funny thing is that those drivers who undercut the system 5-7 years ago are now the ones complaining about the newly arrived who are willing to work for less than they are.

Except for the California city I live in, where whites are not the minority yet: 78.3% white, 8.73% hispanic, 5.8% asian, 4% 2+ races, 2.50% black, 0.60% American Indian/AK Native, 0.15% Hawaiian. Our city's Spanish name is Santa Clarita, located on the Santa Clara River... [:D]

The problem with Ann's "logical" solution is: 1) we don't have enough $ to arrest every illegal person, 2) probally loads of legals would be deported (rent: Born in East LA - where Cheech has to get back into the US!) along with the illegals, 3) US corporations want the cheap labor, and 4) they would find another boat, bus, car, or walk back into the US...
