Marv, the stunning clarity and logic of this statement should be your first clue that will never happen.

Good point Ben. The new trend is to say you were abused and to go to rehab.

My solution:

Imus should release a rap CD, thereby divesting himself of the ability to use the phrase "nappy headed ho's" in a racist/misogynistic way.

Problem solved.

Ha. Do you think if he performed in blackface that would score him more street cred? Nah, probably about the same as Karl Rove's street cred when it comes to rap.[:D]

Looks like it's time to permanently retire to that New Mexico ranch where he'll be free to share obscenities and racial slurs with the tumbleweeds and cattle.

I don't know...doing the opposite didn't do squat for Michael Jackson. I was thinking more along the lines of a name change; say "Snoop Donny Don".

<br>These people are their own worst enemy. They turn a blind eye to and perpetuate their own negative stereotyping. Yet they get hyper-sensitive when whitey says the same words. Bullshit. See the way society is bending over backwards to placate them? It just shows what they're really capable of. Sure, the apology's deserved but let it be a lesson to them and fucking clean up their act. The next rapper that mentions the word hoe should be dropped from their record label, made to publicly apologize repeatedly, and be ostracized from polite society spearheaded by Sharpton and Jackson.

It doesn't count because it's "entertainment"?!? Fucking cop-out horseshit. I'm going to the gym.

edit: Yeah, I know Shovelbum.....they need more government assistance. That'll make it all go away [xx(]

We've heard enough from Sharpton and Jackson. We need Bill Cosby NOW: http://www.eightcitiesmap.com/transcript_bc.htm

Hey, I never said that, Marv. YOU did. Besides, this is a social issue- not a govt. issue. Don't stereotype me now because that makes you as bad as Imus! Keep your words out of my mouth.

I doubt these girls are listening to music about hos (not hoes- no one cares about what you do in the garden, man).

People aren't bending over backwards to "placate" them. This is a good opportunity to show why all negative stereotyping and name calling is wrong, so why not use it for some good? Certainly, we don't need Sharpton's and Jackson's grandstanding, but I think we should all make a stand that this is wrong- black OR white (AND shades inbetween).

To act as if a government issue couldn't begin as a social issue is high ignorance and we should all expect more from a sociology student.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_issue

And yes, the girls as well as the black community ARE being placated.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/placate

They deserve it - don't pretend they don't. The advertisers, MSNBC, etc. The *R*E*A*L* problem is that tomorrow another black comedian or rapper is going to talk about hos or hoes or however you want to spell it. Who do you think came up with the term hos? That's modern day jive / hip hop slang / whatever for "whores". Like L'il John says, he "got hos in different area codes". And where will all the black community leaders be then?

Face it, this is a sociological problem of epic proportion and it's rotting the black community from within. They need an army of Bill Cosbys to give them the proverbial kicks in the ass to shape up. I know all about the successful ones who have dignity and self-respect but all we hear about are the degenerates. Those are the ones who mar the public image. Fifty years after Martin Luther King and THIS is what they have to contend with? It's a travesty.

As far as this whole thing:

I'm not a sociology student.

And there are MANY social issues not taken up by the government. I never said a government issue could not begin as a social issue. Once again, putting those words where they don't belong. But what if this social issue DOES become a government issue: what if we eventually pass laws making it a misdemeanor to make racist and sexual slurs? Sounds like shangri-la to me! I for one would love it if people listened to what I had to say and considered it, rather than responding, "Nice boobs."

MSNBC is placating the PUBLIC, because it's their public image that is at stake. They don't give a rat's ass about those girls. They care about $$$, and with companies pulling their advertising, guests dropping off the show, etc, MSNBC has some stuff to worry about.

As for the term "ho", you answered it yourself. Sure, blacks use it as a term for prostitutes, but they wouldn't have been able to come up with the word if we hadn't coined it first, pronouncing it (Aaaaigh! Linguistics again!) "whores". Same word, different dialect.
Doesn't matter who says it, it's still WRONG.

Gee, Marv, why so ruffled over this issue? You're typing is showing . . . LOL [;)]

Oh, and by the by, as a college student, I NEVER accept wikipedia "facts" because many of them are not adequately resourced. I will accept this one, simply because it is sooooo basic.

HOWEVER: giving me a dictionary reference for the word "placate" is just insulting and annoying. I don't mind having a good old fashioned debate; but doing something like that suggests you are taking it much more personally and just being a putz for the sake of being a putz. I know you are a better person than that, so debate away, but leave the snarky comments on the shelf. [;)]

We're both right:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hoe
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ho

As a college graduate, I find Wikipedia to be a good, quick source for "basic" things that are hard to get wrong.
