KROQ used to play Melting In The Sun quite frequently. I had wished that there was an extended version of this.

This whole album is fantastic.

I love that album! I also like Shabooh Shoobah and Listen Like Theives. I think those are the best. I do like the One Thing and Don’t Change the best from the Shabooh Shoobah album, but it is true, The Swing is their best overall album. And yes, it can be listened to straight through without a hitch! It’s one of those road trip albums that you can put in for a while and not have to worry about changing the CD out. ;o)

The Swing is a nice album. I think I'm torn between Shabooh Shoobah & Listen Like Theives. My fave INXS tracks (INPO):

Actually, nearly the entire album was remixed, but only a few of the mixes every made it out in the US. If you remember Shabooh Shoobah there was an US-only EP that followed it called Dekadance which basically had 4 mixes of songs from Shabooh Shoobah. Well, in Australia only - and only on cassette (well, promo vinyl, but commercial cassette) was Dekadance 2 and has the Aussie-only remixes of "Dancing On The Jetty" and "Original Sin" that are unique to that release. The remixes of "I Send A Message" and "Melting In The Sun" are actually on the "What You Need" US 12" Single. Strange they waited for the next album to release these remixes in the states.

That trilogy of Shabooh Shoobah, The Swing & Listen Like Thieves is a total triple play - nearly perfect and so many amazing b-sides and remixes that have never seen a CD release.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to search out that What You Need 12" just for those remixes. I'm wondering, though, are the remixes in the same era as the original songs? Or are they modernized for the What You Need era?

They are the original Swing-era remixes.

I also think the Swing is INXS' best.
"The One Thing" and "Don't Change" from Shabooh Shoobah are my fave INXS songs, but overall, the Swing is their finest. The beginning guitar riff of "Don't Chnage" gives me chills every time !

I recently picked up this disk along with Shabooh Shoobah and Listen Like Theives. I have to say I missed out by not having these in my collection for so many years!

Kick was one of the first CDs I aver purchased, but outside of a greatest hits, it's taken me this long to add more.

I Send A Message is still one my favorite tracks. In fact, I was able to tell Richard Blade about watching him play that video on Video One at the tribute concert last Friday. If you'd like to check it out, I posted it to my blog.

I saw INXS live many times-- they were a very talented performers, and they sounded great.

The Swing was the first album by INXS that I really loved. It arrived at a time when most of the interesting/eccentric synth new wave music had started to subside, and it was a treat to enjoy a long-player that had a lot of maturity/craft to it.

I would almost consider The Swing as one of a group of albums that, looking back, signaled that new wave was about to evolve in a different, more tame direction.
