THE ROLLERS...power pop or new wave????

for all of you that loved the rollers (formally known as the bay city rollers) last 3 albums,,"ELEVATOR",,"VOXX",,"RICOCHET"...
BCR went thru a drastic musical change in 1979 when they released the gem,elevator.
they added,south african vocalist,"duncan faure" from the south african pop band,"rabitt" that also spawned future yes guitarist,trevor rabin.
bcr changed their name to the rollers and their sound.alot of people didnt even know that the rollers used to be the bay city rollers.
would you consider the rollers power pop or new wave?????

Speaking as a Scot I find them pretty embarrassing. Thankfully I only remember them in a fading childhood memory. They were more glam rock though if I remember?

This thread reminds me of Nick Lowe's song "Bay City Rollers We Love You".

Lowe describes it as "a track I'd carefully sculpted with the aim of getting myself fired from Liberty/UA".[:D]

Whatever it's said Bay City Rollers considered now influential.OK they had the worst hairstyles,crap faces and some annoying songs.But they wrote some nice proto-power pop songs,loved by Ramones and had-it's not a joke-rather punky background vocals in some of their tunes.Rollers were another story,it's the point that the ''Legend'' started to fade completely .Surely not new wave but mainstream pop/rock.Check out Rabbit,Duncan Faure's band, it's a pure power pop group with some light prog influences.

Wrong as usual...watched them all. It only confirms what I said earlier...they were a joke. Cookie cutter band that could be mistaken for any of 50 other mediocre bands. Maybe that passes for quality in the trailer park...

No offense, but watching the videos doesn't change my opinion at all. They were not New Wave no matter what they tried to look like. Rod Stewart was not New Wave no matter how he wore his hair. Pat Benatar was not New Wave no matter what she wore. It's the music that makes the difference here. The Bay City Rollers were nothing more than the Scottish version of any number of contrived boy bands created to pocket the money of teenage girls' parents who would do anything not to see their poor little teenage daughters cry when they hadn't got the latest album and a new subscription to Tiger Beat.
