Band Performances on Letterman/Leno/Kimmel/O'Brien

Postby glokstadt » Fri Apr 27, 2007 6:11 pm

I stay up late watching these shows, and I thought for those that do, we can discuss the bands/artists that perform each night on them. Also gives you a chance to TiVO/record bands you might miss by not knowing about them in advance. [:D][:D]

04/28:
Letterman: Jarvis Cocker, rocked, looks quirky like Elvis Costello circa 1978/79, sounded good, a little Joe Jackson-ish too! Thumbs Up!

Leno: Kings of Leon, sucked ass, didn't like the song. Thumbs down.

Kimmel: The Cimematics (two songs), they rocked!!! Sounded like a cross between Gang of Four (1st song) and Wire (2nd song), Excellent sounding band, don't know where they are from... too bad they ran out of time and cut the second song so short. Two thumbs, waaay UP!

O'Brien: Bruce Hornsby - sucked eggs, played a country/blue grass song. [:(] Thumbs down.

Craig Ferguson: Good Charlotte - Not impressed, mediocre, plain sounded. Thumbs down.

Carson Daly: Jet - sucking on more eggs, wanna-be Led Zeppelin, give me Dread Zeppelin any day. Thumbs down.

I think the impromptu sound setups on these shows are just terrible. I caught the Cinematics because one of the newer members is a family friend from Long Island. My 65ish in-laws are huge fans - a bit strange. But a great band that's getting raves in the UK. Their live sound doesn't translate as well on their albums imho. But yeah, it's usually the converse - New Order SUCKED on Kimmel as did Goldfrapp on Conan. We need alerts for when these band go on Glok and I think you're just the guy to take this on!

Shout out louds, impressed on Ferguson last night. The song they did sounded an awful lot like the Cure. I believe the song was "Tonight I have to leave it".

OneRepublic is name of the band. I don't know the song. I had a hard time with Leno's site , for some reason it wouldn't let me watch that chapter of the show.

Last night saw The Bravery on Leno, cool tune with organ and home=made? keyboards (no guitar!), sounded great--they are starting a tour on March 22nd (this Sat.).

And on Conan, for St. Patrick's Day: Billy Bragg! He rocked as always, I'm gonna go and look and see if he's got a new album coming out...

Last night Moz was on Late Night With Craig Ferguson, and was performing a newer song, he's back on tonight with an older song... FYI, set your TiVos, or stay up late! [:p]

Aimee Mann on Leno toninght. She looked and sounded terrific. Well, at least voice-wise. The music just seemed sort of generic Americana adult...music. Very cool though to see her on such a mainstream stage after all these years - keen contrast to at least one forumite remembering her from her old days, working the counter at Newbury Comics.
