Red Rockers went from hardcore to power pop. Funny...they started out in New Orleans where power pop would have been more appreciated than the hardcore they played. They move to Los Angeles where their hardcore punk music would have had an audience and they switch gears and play power pop. Who advised these guys anyway?

A local favorite, The Neats, went from an REM sound right into heavy
rockin blues.

They had a Ministry-type conversion experience: they went from being an excellent Depeche Clone band to doing horrible, horrible industrial metal. It's like they got tired of all the metalheads whoopin' their arses so they decided to join them...

David Bowie from album to album always changed.

I think whoever the producer is for an album helps shape and change an artists album. For example, The Psychedelic Furs' [i]Forever Now[/i] album produced by Todd Rundgren had the Furs departing themselves from the sounds of their first two albums ([i]S/T[/i] and [i]Talk, Talk, Talk[/i]).

Lush synth lines, [b]added Cello, and the horn section (only a Saxophone before)[/b] gave the album a different edge then the grittier first two LPs.

Ha, that's a great observation! Wish I'd thought of it when I interviewed their lead singer (now with Cowboy Mouth) a few years ago.

An awesome album of blues covers, his final album "Drive" is. He came back to the blues, check out some of his early 70's stuff as part of Vinegar Joe (search youtube for vids).

Kate Bush, heck her albums themselves covered a range of styles.
