Overplayed NW Anthems

Postby djcraig » Mon Sep 10, 2007 11:16 am

What are the 80's songs that, even though you may have liked them at one point, you just can't hear anymore due to too much repetition?

If I have to sit through any of these in their entirety one more time, someone is going to die:

She Drives Me Crazy

Love Shack

Don't You (Forget About Me)

Dead Man's Party

Relax

Mony Mony

I Melt With You, with it being used in movies and commercials it's reached oversaturation with me.

Kajagoogoo - Too Shy
Level 42 - Something About You
Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science
Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach (I don't want to p*** anyone off, but here in Canada that was all you heard when you turned on the radio)
The Tom Tom Club - Genius Of Love
Naked Eyes - Always Somthing There To Remind Me

My #1 ear grinder is The Spoons - Nova Heart

I think I'm just too grumpy to be posting tonight.

As for The Ramones, a majority of radio stations, deejays, etc., if they will ever play The Ramones at all, seem to act like this is the only song they ever recorded.
Look...I don't expect "Beat On The Brat" to be played at a Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony but geez...

Bruiser types:

"and 'come in eileen'? wasn't that a porno?"

Oh my, busted me with a pretty bad and rather amusing typo.

"No telling what keeps me awake."

TOTALLY OVERPLAYED, yet I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. It still grabs me. I think it's musical new wave riff perfection, and I continue to appreciate it.

Agree with "Melt With You".
B-52s "Love Shack", too, although this kind of post new wave.

Seems that our local (NY) top 40 stations continually flog these once quite listenable 80's classics (especially on '80's weekends').

Let's add some more to this growing list.

Animotion's - 'Obsession'

Bananarama's - 'Venus'

Billy Idol's - 'White Wedding'

Blondie's - 'Heart Of Glass', 'Call Me', 'The Tide Is High' (I know, more pop than NW)

Dead or Alive's - 'You Spin Me Round', 'Brand New Lover'

DM's - 'Route 66' (Beatmasters mix) Arghh![xx(] Oh Man, did 92.7 KILL this one for me! (Tell me Rewind, why did they do that!)

Eurythmics - 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)'

Falco's - 'Rock Me Amadeus'

Men At Work's - 'Land Down Under'

Men Without Hats - 'The Safety Dance'

PSB's - 'West End Girls' (Top 40 version)

Talking Heads - 'Burning Down The House'

The Fixx's - 'One Thing Leads To Another

The Stray Cats - 'Rock This Town'

Thompson Twins - 'Hold Me Now'

UB40 - 'Red Red Wine'

U2's - 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)'

Yaz - 'Situation'

Funny, after compiling this list, one track has personally remained totally immune to the radio overplay syndrome..

Human League's - 'Don't You Want Me'[8D]
