Right now? Why is now any different than anything else in the last 4000 years or so?

Also, I'm NOT a fan of Kanye West (and yes, he really f-ed up the Daft Punk song), but aside from the "give a black man a chance" bit I kind of agree with him. With so much GREAT music out there, and even so much AVERAGE music out there, why did they let Britney perform? It was trash, clear and simple. The answer is that America likes trash. A large number of Americans love Walmart, pro-wrestling, Jerry Springer, and Britney's crotch. They'd rather bathe themselves in that filth than promote truly talented musicians who deserve notice.

And mind you, I'm not suggesting that putting Kanye West on the stage is a better alternative.
