Songs which the 12" remix improved the original

One point not mentioned about the extended versions of songs is that invariably the 12" pressing of the vinyl was of a better quality than the corresponding 7" release in terms of sound quality.

Even if the version of the song is identical from 7" to 12" more care was paid to the 12" pressing than the 7", generally viewed as almost a throw away item by many record companies.

As a footnote, I have quite a few ext. mixes that are only 5 - 15 seconds longer than the 7" pressing. makes you wonder why change it at all.

Reading all of these 12-inch remix titles really makes me wish that there was more of an effort to compile them to CD. I know, some DO make it to the digital format and we can't forget what Hi-Bias Records and Alex Hush are doing with the "Retro: Active" series, but I still lament that so much isn't available. What's also cool about reading these selections, is there are quite a few mentioned that I never heard before and I feel like I'm missing out. I so want the compiling of remixes to continue before they are lost to time and/or neglect. Thank goodness all of you are preserving their memory with your recollections.

FYI: There's another great boxed CD comp series out there courtesy of SPG Music Productions called <a href="http://www1.gemm.com/c/search.pl?field=ARTIST+OR+TITLE&wild=Classic+Alternatives&Go%21.x=0&Go%21.y=0&Go%21=Search" target="blank">'Classic Alternatives 80's' (Vols 1-4 & Limited Edition)</a> They are packed with the rarer (and superior IMO) remix & extended versions which can still be had for a reasonable price.

how about the "long version" of "here comes the rain again"? same song, slower fade. slower by about 5 seconds maybe.

...and the ultimate rip off...there was a 12" version of Too Drunk To Fuck by the Dead Kennedys that, in very small print said something like "Ha ha, you just paid extra money for the 12-inch when it's actually the exact same version as he 7 inch!"

ABC pulled the same thing "That Was Then But This Is Now". The 12" stated that if you wanted to waste your money then go ahead and get it, but the 7" contained the same amout of music.

Wow, I had no idea there was a 12" for Bus Boys "Cleaning Up The Town"! Anyone have it?

The 12" for Peter Schilling's "Major Tom" really got the point and atmosphere of the song across much better than the 7".

Eurythmics "Sexcrime" is another perfect 12" cuz it really drives home a killer dance cut by making it longer without making it boring.

and funny enough, the album/7"/12" version WAS edited from a longer version, which just saw the light of day last year on the uk reissues!

Is there *any* difference between Tears for Fears "Mad World" and "Mad World (World Remix Version)"?

(checking the bong zero site, world remix is 15s longer, but how does that quality as a remix?)
