I'd check 'em out!! My State Fair options were Tesla, KC & the Sunshine Band, Huey Lewis, Doughtrey, or Weird Al.[V]
I actually considered seeing Weird Al.[:I]

That's a least a whole lot better than my county fair's offerings of bands...

That reminds of a show Gene Loves Jezebel did around here a couple years ago. It was a festival called the Cow Ballet in a small farm/ranch town about 25 miles outside Salt Lake City called Peoia, complete with "fishin' pond, barbeque, couple long jump, bull bingo, and rides". That's a direct quote from the add. I'm sorry to say I didn't make it.

Ok,I thought it was strange too, but I am over it now. I have never seen them and I live pretty close to the Puyallup Fairgrounds (near Tacoma)...I want to go! Has anyone seen them in the past few years? Recommendations welcome.

I saw them a year and a half ago and it was fantastic.....go by all means. Devo will not disappoint. They may be older and fatter (who isn't?) but they still put on one hell of a show.

I read an article somewhere recently that playing state fairs is very lucrative for bands...they can get $30,000 for one show.

I went to the 9/21 fair show advertised above, and it was pretty amazing! Max Murdoc was right...once you get over seeing a them a little older and fatter, they are something else live. They pump out hit after hit, and are much more of a loud "rock" band live. They are more guitar based than I expected, and the drummer hits it hard. Of course, they still had the great analog sounding synths for all the right touches, but those didn't dominate the show.

Even though the venue was a stadium, they had the crowd dancing most of the way through...or gawking at how great they are live (guilty!). They are extremely interactive, throwing tons of flower pot hats into the audience, and even singing from the middle of the floor crowd, which turned into a bouncing mass around Mark M.

For those of us that remember their early days, it was a relief to see that they are still subversive too. They ended the show with a 10 minute version of "Beautiful World" that rocked the place into the party zone but was really a deceptively sad song when sung by the "Boji Boy" character - which is Mark M. in a big chubby boy costume, singing the truly sad words with a chirpy choirboy voice. He kept singing the refrain "It's a beautiful world for you...for you...for you...but not for me!" as the fair crowd partied into the night.

I wish we had state fairs. It sounds like fun. I guess we are too "citified". I have never been to one. But it sounds like there are some good acts. Devo might be a little out of their element though.

Yeah...I expected Devo to be out of their element too. And they were when I first walked into the fair stadium, which is also used for rodeos! Kudos to the spud boys for transforming the place into a new wave party zone though.

I have to admit, the Western Washington Fairgrounds does try to host some decent new wave artists. Just a few weeks ago they had the Stray Cats/Pretenders/ZZ Top show, and have had the B-52's before.
