New Wave and The Doors?

The Stranglers did a cover of Dionne Warwick's Walk on By and created a very long instrumental middle part with a strong organ sound a la Doors.

One of the worst Doors covers, but I'm surprised no one's mentioned Adam Ant's "Hello I Love You" from "Friend or Foe". I actually like that album, but hate the song.

I think I'd like the E&tBM cover of "People Are Strange" more if it sounded more Bunnymenish and less Doorsy.

To answer Blir's question, yes I and my new wave friends back in the day liked the Doors. I don't enjoy them much anymore, though. They just sound too self-consciously arty and pretentious to me now.

Ray Manzarik is always stretching his creative muscles. Just a few weeks ago I saw him play at the Summer of Love concert in San Francisco where he led a band that supported beat poet Michael McClure as he read his poetry.

Btw, the L.A. synth band Moebius did a synthpunk cover of Light My Fire in 1979 on their album Moebius.

Annabel Lamb did a cover of "Riders on the Storm" back in 1983, which I don't like very much.

I couldn't go to Paris last week and not visit the Père Lachaise cemetery:

Apparently the site is monitored by video camera as there are people who break in after hours to do drugs and fornicate atop the grave. When I heard that, it did inspire a little chuckle out of me.
