Your happy songs?

Postby Frau_Blucher » Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:21 am

How come I can't find a thread on favorite happy songs? Those that can't fail to make you smile and tap your toes. Surely there must be one. If not, here's a few off the top of my head, regardless of genre:

Relatively recent:
M83 - Don't Save Us from the Flames
The Mary Onettes - Lost
The Zutons - Valerie
Brakes - Hold Me In the River

A littler longer ago:
Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar
My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep
The Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
Cake - I Will Survive

A lot longer ago:
Blondie - Pretty Baby
Wire Train - Chamber of Hellos
Chameleons - Up the Down Escalator
The Damned - Alone Again Or
Joy Division - Transmission
New Order - Regret

We listen to the "alternative" station at work so all my choices are recent:

You Are The One - Shiny Toy Guns
Icky Thump - White Stripes
Jane Fonda - Mickey Avalon ... because it pisses my co-workers off so much when it comes on! [:D]
Metro - The Vincent Black Shadow
Incinerate - Sonic Youth (surprise)

So true! Not to whine, but I had a completely shitty summer and was listening to that one a lot! Funny thing, a lot of the songs on others' lists are total downers for me.

Also:
Anything by Dinah Washington, even the blues
Anything from Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, or Magic Flute
Anything by Franz Ferdinand, Fratellis, or Futureheads (what is it with me and Scottish bands with "F" names?)
"Bizarre Love Triangle," New Order
"Gentlemen Take Polaroids," Japan
"Janie Jones" and "I Fought the Law," the Clash
"So Naive" and "Jackie Big Tits," the Kooks
"Queen Bitch," David Bowie,
"Rock & Roll," Led Zeppelin
"Personality Crisis" NYD
"Another Girl, Another Planet," original or any cover, esp. Blink 182
"World Shut Your Mouth," esp the Death Cab cover
"What's My Age Again," Blink 182
"Date Rape," Sublime [}:)]
"The Kids are All Right," Who or Matthew Sweet/Susanna Hoffs cover
"Oblivious," Aztec Camera
"Float On," Modest Mouse
Did I already say "Janie Jones"? [:D]

"The Sun and the Rain" - Madness

"Where the Streets Have No Name/Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" - Pet Shop Boys

"Complete Control" - The Clash, thanks to that YouTube video ("Cigarettes and Toads!").

"Shoes" and "Let Me Borrow That Top" by Kelly crack me up, though I'm sure I'll get tired of them soon.

"II B.S." by Charles Mingus

"Roadrunner", "I'm A Little Airplane", and "Ice Cream Man" by Johnathan Richman

"Get Ready For Love", "Breathless", and "Nature Boy" by Nick Cave.

"Rain" by Dragon

"Rush" Big Audio Dynamite

"Say You Miss Me" and "I Must Be High" by Wilco

<p align="justify">Pretty much any Italo Disco song[}:)] I have some ZYX compilations (I <3 ZYX Italo Disco vols. 3-6), which compile some of these trashy Pop gems. Of course, they're not gonna put the best shit into these comps, but I'd say about half of it is still listenable. I'm looking to see if I can find volumes 1 and 2 of this series[}:)] There is also The Best Of I <3 ZYX Italo Disco and I'd guess these are the better songs from all the compilations into one craptastic compilation[}:)][}:)]
