Atlanta Live Music Scene in the '80s ???

Hey Grumpy! Where did you grow up in ATL? I grew up in College Park ... went to Lakeshore High School. Moved downtown after high school to go to college at Ga. Tech and then later on Ga. State. I lived in midtown near Piedmont Park then later the city of Decatur before I left ATL for the midwest. My 2 brothers still live in Atlanta. My dh and I go back every few years to visit friends and family but I don't really want to go back and live there. My mom lives in Ocala, FL in a retirement community. I went to 688 as often as possible back then. You should check out their Myspace page ... the pictures will really bring back memories! Those 2 blonde chicks that worked the bar - remember them? Those were some of the best times of my life! Maybe we can compare notes some time!

Oh yeah! One of my close friends from school was from Savannah and we'd go stay with his family. St. Patty's was fun. Now I've got friends whose son just went off to the big design college in Savannah ... the names escapes me just now ... I'd love to go back there ... hmmm ... now you've got me thinking ...[;)]

I grew up in Norcross attended Norcross High School, Moved on University of Georgia for 4 years. Then I lived in Little 5 Points/Virgina Highlands area for around 5 years. After I had my babies I moved out to a house we bought in Snellville. I know abouthe 688 myspace(should be on the friends list)there is also a myspace for the Metroplex.

In the early 80's, I remember calling and begging the Agora Ballroom to let me in to see Numan. They laughed. I was pissed.

Anyhoo, when I turned 16 I began sneaking over to Atlanta from where I lived to check out what I could. I immediately moved here after High School. It's been a blast.

I still live in "tha A" (sigh) now and have always tried to be a part of what's going on. Last night I saw The Vibrators at The Star Community Bar in Little Five Points. Rock on!!!!!

It was really intimate. It was at the Roxy Theater, and I was a few feet away from the men of Bunny. It was lots of fun, except when some wacked-out women shoved her way in front of me (I was against the rails), during my fave song, "The Cutter." She then proceeded to jump the barricade in the hopes of groping Ian. Luckily, members of the crowd detained her long enough for security to get her.

Unfortunately, she forced her way back in front of me afterwards. -_-

Then some stoner dude smoking the hashish hippied his way in front of her...Before I knew it, I was pushed to the third row.

From what I hear Danny Beard of Wax 'N Facts is still a fixture on the music scene and L5P. I remember meeting him at 688 in the early '80s while I was a Ga. Tech student. We would hang out at clubs together. Once we went on a real date to the Moonshadow Saloon and saw Gang of Four. It was great. He introduced me to 10,000 Maniacs (the band, not audience members[:)]) who were all there and one of the REM guys. Don't really remember which one it was now. I thought I was so cool. We were pretty good friends for awhile. He's a big sports fan and we went to alot of basketball games together. Those were good times, they were! I still want to go to '80s night at the Masquerade next time I'm in town!!!

He was still very active with the store 3 years ago.

Hey Grumpy! I know Snellville because my brother and his wife lived in Grayson for about 8 years before they moved to Dacula. I was living in Decatur then so I'd head out 78 through Stone Mtn. and Snellville to get there. I've been meaning to tell you after reading through those posts in the general section that my 3 kids all love Webkinz[:)]
