Anyone else here a fan? I'm a huge fan of Reverend Horton Heat and Southern Culture on the Skids. How about Los straitjackets,Amazing(Royal) Crowns or Horrorpops. Maybe older bands like The Blasters,Shakin Pyramids,Robert Gordon and of course The Stray Cats.

It'd be a shame not to mention a couple of godfathers of the revival, Dave Edmunds and The Cramps. Haven't kept up with 90s and 00's incarnations, although I hear there's a big underground scene.

The Cramps should definitley be mentioned as well as Social Distortion. I see many Social D fans whenever I see The Reverend or SCOTS. Does anyone have a recomendation about The Meteors?

We also saw a band called Jason and the (Nashville) Scorchers live in Atlanta alot in the '80s. Wonder what happened to them ...

I saw a few of the Jason and the Scorchers shows in Atlanta as well. Had a good friend who loved them. Flat duo jets was another rockabilly band I saw alot(mainly because they were from Athens). Southern Culture and The Cramps played there alot as well. Great stuff live(after a few drinks)! Polecats are another one I also like alot.

I have always had a soft spot for the Stray Cats, but never considered myself a rockabilly fan per se. However, that's changing. I realize I have always loved the Blasters and other 80's roots rock, so I have been trying to explore a bit more traditional rockabilly as of late. I also picked up a copy of the Elvis Brothers cd...another of the early 80's bands around the time of the Polecats. Pretty good stuff, although I had to buy the cd directly from one of the bandmembers at a bit higher price.

KEXP in Seattle has a great rockabilly radio show (I think it's called "Swinging Doors"), and they have had a "Rockabilly Ball" for 20 years running at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle.

A scene ripe for further exploration!

Had some good fun with rockabilly in the mid-eighties. Was lucky enough to be friends with guys in the band THE WHYOS from New Jersey. They were a great group of guys who loved the sound. They played out at the Dirt Club in Bloomfield. Other local bands around were Eddie and the Hubcaps and The GYROS. I've been in touch recently with Brian Post of The Whyos who played stand up bass. He's involved in the racing of NASCAR type cars. I remember the boys getting their hair coiffed up high (lots of hairspray) before the show, wearing the 50's styled bowling shirts and tight cuffing their short sleeves. It was a specialized kind of sound even then. But it had a big following. Good fun! I have black and white photos of them which I could scan and post at some point if anyone is interested.

How could I have missed this? Jason and the Scorchers, one of my all time faves! They put out a number of records, Jason (Ringenberger) still plays occasional Scorchers shows and has had a successful solo career. He also does Kid's songs (Farmer Jason) and continues to tour the world. I recommend A Pocketful of Soul.
