Funny. It started out clockwise then soon after went counter clockwise then back to clockwise one more time then back again to counter clockwise for good. What the hell is up with that ?

I think it depends on what your doing... all day clockwise, been editing a school catalog, and now I look at her and she's spinning counter-clockwise, and I can't get her to change.

Dude! You might be onto something here with this context thing. When I posted this thread, it was all counter-clockwise. During the day, I've been monkeying around with a lot of music and video editing...the freaking thing went clockwise the whole rest of the day! I thought it might just be a permanent thing now that my brain got adjusted to the image.

But now, late tonight, as I'm catching up on a bunch of pain-in-the-ass work, the chick went back to counter-clockwise. What a total trip!!!

Yep, I'm "thinking" it's what your doing with your brain and how it "functions" at/in the moment... don't know (or recall) any of the fancy scientific/medical terms to throw in here...

And maybe the Hepacampious (spelling--my bad!) region has something to do with it and how are cerbiral cortex switches sides in the back of our head... oh geez! I'm spouting now...

No matter what I do or don't do, she spins clockwise. But the laundry list of left-brain functions describe me to a T.

The bigger question is "shouldn't she be dizzy by now?"

I saw this a few days ago on a different board as well.

After a lot of practice, I can get her spinning both ways pretty much at will. My technique (it won't work for everybody) is to only focus on the tip of her extended foot and to completely ignore every other part of the dancer (hard to do cuz she's so fine). If she's turning clockwise at the moment, I wait until her foot is all the way on its leftmost point then I imagine that the rest of her leg reverses direction (sweeping out rightward in front of her body rather than rightward behind her body). If the leg reverses, immediately look up and the rest of the dancer's body should follow in the same direction. If her leg doesn't reverse direction (if the leg still sweeps out behind her body), I don't look up at the dancer but continue staring at that leftmost point until the leg reverses.

Similarly, if she's turning counter at the moment, focus on the foot until it's at its rightmost point then imagine that the rest of her leg is sweeping leftward in front rather than leftward behind her (ignoring the rest of the dancer). If the leg doesn't reverse direction, keep staring at that point. As soon as the leg reverses (sweeps out in front), then immediately look up and the rest of the dancer's body follows pretty easily.

The only time I can get her to switch directions is at the extreme points (I can't if her outstretched leg is at any point between). This also doesn't work if I focus too much on the face/chest/arms first--I have to focus at that point and move up afterwards. This works 100% of the time for me, and it might work for a few other people (but not everyone).

When I focus only on her foot while ignoring her ankle and leg. It looks like she's just swinging her foot from left to right, not turning around at all. Kind of like the old baton-twirling trick.

Looking at her from top to bottom she goes clockwise, but if I startr from bottom up--counter clockwise.

At first, the image went only counterclockwise. Then I moved my mouse in a clockwise direction over the image, and got the image to "switch" directions. After that, it won't "switch" back! Sign of stubborness maybe? [;)]
