Was down there for a week--staying on Ocean Ave..went down to check out the Pats/Dolphins game--we won it was great--Watched the Sox clinch in one of the clubs down there where everyone was a Sox fan and that was great..Met Paul Scheaffer -dont know how to spell his name who cares..ate a lot of expensive food--waaayyy too pricey but its what ya gotta do when there..All in all a cool vacation...yet its one of those places that irk me because EVERY resteraunt includes on the bill--17% gratuity already added. Now--asshole that I can be--thats ALL that they get no matter how good the service. When I get good service, they get good tips. Force me to give a 17% tip--you are not getting more. Sorry.
But.. other than that--great trip and I would recommend it if you have not been there.

Same here. As a rule of thumb, I double the tax. Eight and a half percent comes out to seventeen percent and then I round up or down to the nearest integer of five or ten just to make the change easier. This could be some twenty percent, well worth good service. If the service is shit or accompanied with an attitude, they're lucky if they get half the tax in tip from me.

I also double the tax and then throw on a buck or two because our tax rate is 7.25%--a bit lower than other cities, from what I understand.

Anytime we get hit with an automatic gratuity, we don't tip on top of that.

Holy crap! Canadians are truely over-taxed [:(!]. In Ontario we have 8% Provincial tax and Canadian gov't tax of 6%. I just add the two, and also through in a couple of dollars.

I don't pay attention to the tax. I just tip. I always over tip unless the person is a total tool and ignores me.

When in South beach I make an effort to walk a couple blocks up to Lincoln Dr. Lots of good restaurants, bars and people watching to be done. I get away to Miami every winter for acouple of months...can't wait[8D]. Eating out does get pretty expensive down there. I like to tip well especially when they are nice.
