Tell me a little bit about - your Mother...

Hello all. Slow day for me, I know.

I am a new member here - having found the site and forums just a couple of days ago. It is awesome reading about the music I love and knowing that there are more people out there than myself who are stuck in the eighties - musically.
I was wondering if you could all tell a little bit about yourselves and how you came to be a Mod, or a Rocker, or a Roots-Rock-Rebel. I will start, while trying to keep it brief....

My name is Lee. I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. I have loved music for as long as I can recall. I got a Close-And-Play phonograph for my third birthday, complete with the Beatles "I Want to Hold Your Hand" 45rpm. In my formative years I was a big fan of The Beach Boys, Elton John, ELO and others of that genre.
On clear nights, we could pick up Virginia Tech's campus station, WUVT on the radio. This was in the early eighties. WUVT turned us (My friends and I) on to the whole New-Wave movement. We never looked back. While everyone at our school was all pumped-up for REO Speedwagon, AC/DC and Van Halen, I was walking around the school halls with a Blue Mohawk blasting the Dead Kennedy's on my Boom-Box.
I started my first Punk band in 1980 - "Madwerm". We did covers such as The Ramone's "Commando", The Police's "Mesage in a Bottle", The Clash's "Brand New Cadillac", and even stuff as obscure as The Resident's "Booker Tease". In a region of 98 percent rednecks, we weren't well recieved.
I began a career as a radio announcer in 1986. For a couple of years, during Post-Modern's Hey Day, I worked for radio station WVVV located between Virginia Tech and Radford University. Best commercial station EVER! I was program director and music director, and a lot of the jocks that I worked with I used to listen to on WUVT! Quite often, we would have such names as Chris Stamey, The Connells, Mitch Easter, Dave Matthews and many, many others come and hang out in the studio with us. We played everything. It was great!
I am still in Radio, but am living in Florida now with my beautiful girlfriend. I am in the process of producing a seventies and eighties underground music show for syndication. The show will be called "Generation X-Files". I am assembling the demo disc this weekend, and will then be shopping for stations.

That's me in a nutshell! I would love to hear some of your stories, if you will indulge me!

I was wondering if anyone would recognize the title, which is meant to be a line from Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive".

That is right! Forgot that one!

...but when I wrote it, I had the doctor on "Hyperactive" in mind.

Actually, listening to "Hyperactive", I have found that the correct phrase was "Tell me more about - your mother", so the Blade Runner quote is more appropriate.
