Amen to that! My fiancee was jacked around by them after a car accident. The guy at fault had Allstate as his carrier and while he was civil and admitted fault, Allstate had other plans. We finally settled for a fairly dismal figure despite intimidation and disgusting attempts to dismiss her. She still suffers from back and shoulder pain. "Guilty until proven even more guilty" should be their motto.

Now, insurance companies are something we can all agree on. you pay, and pay, and pay (heaven forbid you are late, or they will cancell you) and then if you do need their help, it takes months to get the check, if they cover your situation at all. fucking racket.

^^^ OK Rotator: You pay so that when something happens you won't get your pants sued off! Collecting from "them" is always a different story, and that's when we as agents get the shaft from the company as well... You buy insurance from me, something happens, want to settle it and everyone move forward any delays, and I've lost as a customer...

Anyway, on an update note, the Canyon Country (City of Santa Clarita) fire was set by and underage boy playing with matches, thank god on;y 20 houses were lost as compaired what happened down south of me in San Diego--1,600+ homes lost!

So they don't know if they'll charge the kid as it is considered an accident so far...

what do you think they outta do to the kid???

There's no reason for any kid to be playing with matches unless they're up to no good. How underage was the kid? 8 or 9? Anything older than that and they knew what they were doing when they were lighting them and should be charged. I don't know what punishment because you don't give an age. Even at 8 or 9 they should know better. What can you do if he's underage? Try to go back on the parents? I doubt it, they'll probably sue the store the kid got the matches from. Nothing is going to change what happened to everyone or bring back what they lost. So, life will go on for that family ( I assume it's like here in Canada where you'll never know the family name since he/she is underage) while everyone else is left to start over again.

I ramble, kids doing stupid stuff like this always ticks me off.

They won't release/say his age because he is a minor, but I'm guessing under 10, so between 7 and 9 is my guess--no name, no age ever given, the District Attorney's office will file the charges if accident won't stand. (All guessing on my end here.)

It doesn't matter if he was a kid or not, he is still responsible, and thus should pay some sort of restitution. Whether it's suing the parents, or garnishing their paychecks for a while...IMO, a good restitution should be that that kid should perform community service for years to come. Start with cleaning up some the areas his dumb actions affected. Get him out there with the firemen and make him do menial work (if he is not allowed to actually do fire cleanup). Teach him construction (what he could be able to handle at 10 years old, or whatever age he's at---I don't mean hand him a nailgun.), laboring skills, plastering, all those useful kind of skills, and then make him do this until he's 18.

Look, I just don't think the "he's a kid, he didn't know what the heck he was doing" excuse is valid. Of [i]course[/i] he knew what he was doing...he was playing with matches ! What did he think was going to happen ? Even a kid knows that playing with matches is a lot deadlier than playing with, say, Matchbox cars. That is just a lame excuse in today's responsibility-dodging society. That stuff irritates me to no end. If I were this kid, I'd feel terrible, and I would be begging my parents to let me do something about it. I'd be dying to help in some way.
