Not my comment about Jools Holland's show but I agree with the sentiment:
"The Hootenanny thing has become a New Year irritation... Jools Holland "owns" this slot and it seems to get worse every year. Rather than put the onus on quality entertainment, he pulls in his bum buddies for a bit of humourless chat - Rivron in particular always seems to get a whole bunch of airtime for no discernable reason. It's like Holland is pulling favours for half those present - middle aged comedians who have lost their edge, musicians like Weller and the omnipresent Lily Allen (yawn) who are friends, or friends of friends.. heck.. it's some kind of miracle that Beverly Knight wasn't there dominating the show.
This year Amy Winehouse took centre stage, which I'm sure delighted
her because, obvious talents aside, she sure is one self centred skank
bitch. The warbling was overindulgent, and she spent far too much time
adjusting her skirt.
Holland went one better this year by promoting his tedious big band
throughout, esp. with a highly unpopular Boogie Woogie rendition being
cranked out during the countdown. The fact that the whole thing is
recorded before the event and it's all a pretense makes it even more
sickening.
In summary : Prerecorded New Year circle jerk
