Boxer Response to Marburger Statement on White House Editing of CDC Global Warming Testimony
October 26, 2007

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks in response to a statement released this morning by Dr. John Marburger, Director of the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy. Numerous pages were completely cut by the White House from the testimony of Dr. Julie Gerberding, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, before an October 23 Environment and Public Works Committee hearing on the impacts of global warming on public health.

Senator Boxer said: "Dr. Marburger's statement is a lame defense of the White House action to censor information the American people deserve to know about the dangers of global warming."

I wonder how many dimwits will fess up to how wrong they were in a few years when this global warming hysteria is finally accepted for what it is...much ado about nothing.

Like Marv said in an earlier post, stating your personal views in an obnoxious or condescending manner doesn't stimualate any debate. Once someone has been talked down to, it doesn't give either side a real chance to take a closer look at the opposing point of view.

The opposite view could be stated: "I wonder how many dimwits will fess up to how wrong they were in a few years when global warming is shown to have permanent deliterious effects on our environment, our economy, and our health.."

Hutter, the point of the thread that I thought was worth discussing is not so much a person's views on global climate change, but if decision theory, like the original post showed is worth using to determine our response to it. As I said originally I'm still on the fence about this, but the one thing I definitely agree with the guy on the video about is that, for better or worse, the experiment is playing out now, while both sides ridicule the other. To make a better decision concerning the possibility of man-made global climate change can we use tools like decision theory (with probabilites for outcomes put into the model) to aid us? It's blind hatred on both sides of the debate that will paralyze our ability to do so.

I thought about posting a multi-paragraph response, one that would be picked to pieces by someone who is dead determined to favor emotions over cold facts and logic. But why bother. Folks will believe whatever they want to believe, regardless of proof (or lack of it).
