Jellyfish

I did a search on the forums to see if anyone had posted anything about Jellyfish and to my amazement nothing really came up. If you haven't heard them they are one of the best power pop/60s throwback bands I ever heard from the late 80s/early 90s. They only released 2 albums. The firt was Bellybutton which is a classic album. The second was Spilt Milk which came out after several personnel changes. It is also an amazing album but is often considered inferior (slightly) to the first album. Personally I love them both.
notlame.com brought out a 4 CD box set a few years back called "Fanclub" which was limited edition and now goes for several hundred dollars on Ebay. It is also great.
The main man was Roger Manning who went on to play with Beck for several years. Andy Strummer and Jason Falkner were the other two main guys.

They also had a whole bunch of offshoots including solo material, The Grays, Moog Cookbook, Logan's Sanctuary, Imperial Drag.
Anyone have any thoughts on Jellyfish.

I saw them once opening up for World Party at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on the Goodbye Jumbo tour and they blew my mind. I've been a fan ever since.

Not a big fan, but I knwo Andy Summers has worked with Puffy (or as they are known in N America, PuffyAmiyumi)

I don't think they've come up here because they're not really a new wave/80's band. Bellybutton was released in August of '90. I've always considered them a 90's band. Somehow I've managed to see them twice - in '90 at a music festival, and in '94 opening for Tears For Fears. I thought "The King Is Half Undressed" was ok at best, but "Baby's Coming Back" made me want to jump out a window.

[Stuck In The Eighties]

Spilt Milk is an awesome album. I think it's far superior rthan their first. Obviously, they're a 90's act, but I still put on Spilt Milk from time to time.

Well that would explain it. Wrong bloody forum. Hey how about that 80s band Nirvana...[8D]. I gotta stop posting from airports. Too many drinks in the lounge and I can't even figure out what decade I'm talking about. Well at least I had my health.

Funny you mention that, I used to think of Nirvana as an 80's band! Only because I'd heard their Sub Pop material back in high school a couple of years before Nevermind.

One of my favorite bands, Kitchens of Distinction, is a 90's band in my mind, even though their first single is dated 1987. Their discography is basically this:

1987 - 1st single
1989 - 1st album
1990 - 2nd album
1992 - 3rd album
1994 - 4th album
1996 - last single

Putting Nirvana on an 80's comp would sorta be like putting "Cars" and "Pop Muzik" on a 70's comp..chronologically accurate, but ye know..

Wow, it would've been awesome to see Jellyfish & World Party back in the day.....I love both of those bands!

IIRC - Jellyfish was made up of members of a short-lived mid-eighties band called Beatnik Beach. They had one or two albums that were pretty good.
