So I downloaded some crap

Postby zill » Tue Nov 06, 2007 1:05 am

The board has been flooded with obscure tunes for download recently, which is great. I love it!

But amidst some of the treasures is a lot of crap. With storage so cheap these days, what do you do with the songs you don't like? Delete them? Save them to round out your "collection"? Keep listening for awhile hoping they'll grow on you?

For a time I was saving everything but one day I realized some of the stuff I would never listen to, and I turfed my crap folder.

If you don't like the first 15 seconds of the song the first time you hear it, throw it out and don't look back.

This may be short sighted, smacking of a dysfunctional need for instant gratification and an inability to employ patience but it has always worked for me.

So, "Uncertain Smile" (single version) would be tossed?

I have a friend who does the same thing...so I'll play a song for him (skipping the first 10 seconds) that he rejected due to his 10 second rule and 9 times out of 10 he'll say, "wow, I like that....who is it"? It never fails. He's tossed out so much stuff that he ends up getting back off of me because of his rule.

The only way I delete stuff is if I notice that I haven't played it more than once in a couple of months.

The music you listen to is the soundtrack of your life.

I used download it all-but you learn over time who has tastes like yours or not like yours. Dont like it--toss em. I have noticed stuff offered up a year or more ago was more in tune to my tastes. Now it seems like boatloads of-gag--remixes and exteneded versions that I cannot tolerate. Perhaps remixes should have their own thread so I dont have to wade through it.[:D]

If at first you don't like Apart from the Crowd, keep listening to it. It will grow on you. Trust me. It will. Like a fungus. The record's subtle nuances are ones which cannot be fully appreciated until one subjects oneself to repeated exposure to it. Invite a friend to partake in the ambience. Take notes if need be.

I occasionally throw AFTC sing along parties. The goal is to make it through the lyrics without busting out in laughter. There are prizes for anyone who is successful...sadly, nobody has won yet.
