That was a classic! Time was you couldn't post a pic without a bottle of lube popping up.

ben,
your cover art designs are AMAZING ! Nice job, very inspiring.[8D]

And very clean, too.
Totally unlike my desk in my classroom at school. I'm one of those types of people whose desk is buried under a perpetual paper bomb. Strange thing is, I know where everything is. I've got a system to my paper bomb. As long as nobody touches it and messes it up.

Hey, we should all post pictures of our work areas! C'mon ! I bet it'll show a lot about us. I'll post mine when I get back to work next week--as soon as I excavate my camera from underneath the papers all over my desk[:I]

The European version has Kraftwerk on the cover, but the spanish one has Sid Vicious on the cover... I'd prefer the Kraftwerk cover a thousand times but well...
I've got to say that I've enjoyed the reading of it in spite of the fact that is way too eclectic and even confusing in its album selection.
Yeah, Britney, Justin, etc... are included.
But in its favour... Joy Division's Closer and UP are included, Cure's Disintegration is included, several DM albums are included, several Kraftwerk albums and if I recall well also the Neu! albums are included. So it isn't such a terrible book.

I just got this book as a gift--but haven't time to comb over it in detail. Already, though, there's delightful surprises (I opened it up randomly and there was A-Ha's "Hunting High and Low"--something I'd never expect, and I suddenly don't feel so lonely--so there must be at least a few critics here who know good music--certainly not all--but I'll definitely take a look). Some time soon, I'll especially list what they say are relevant to what this group is all about(I'll also include influences, and influenced--those that are a bit more obvious). It'd be especially an interesting discussion to state what has been ignored. I'm sure we'll come up with some VERY obvious ones--not just obscure ones. :)

Already, I can say Britney does not belong here in this book--so there's at least one or two oddball critics in here that should've been "Fired"--but then again--who knows? Like I've ever heard a Britney album track by track and read the liner notes while listening--so who am I to say? But you see, there's much more one can do during their time--like staring at the ceiling until eyes become fuzzy . . . :P I could easily croak without having to hear another song or see her face again . . . as if I had a choice. Just turn on the t.v. for one second, or have an ad appear by chance above or to the right of one's favorite newspaper, blog, or other popular information site. :P

And if Britney's listed, then we're really in a cultural wasteland this decade--I guess I wasn't that naive--maybe the really great albums are never known because they don't meet the Clear Channel Approval list--which likes Britney and boy bands?! If so, it's time for underground lists and non-Itunes file sharing charts. :)

But this isn't the Trouser Press 1001 albums list--I think that one would've been more on the mark. :)

Okay--this is a coffee table book, more than a catalog. Not every description has the track listing, and some pages are emphasized with high glossy pictures--it gets some merit for highlighting true new wave classic albums--however, while occasionally earlier albums may be highlighted or an occasional gem may crop up--it all seems based on well-known albums that people already know. For example, Tears for Fears "Songs from the Big Chair" is included, but NOT "the Hurting" (which I personally, think, is still superior). Sinead O'Connor's "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got," but no "The Lion and the Cobra." Portishead's Dummy got a two page spread, but no mention of their brilliant second album.

Meanwhile, the entire catalog of Dexys Midnight Runners is included--I guess one critic of the bunch refused to let go anything by their personal favorite artist.

The two page spread of Britney is very unfortunate--even in the description it states most critics panned it, but it sold a lot of copies? Uh. . . what is this book supposed to be about, again? I think inclusion of a Mariah Carey album in here is even worse--uh, nobody remembers her now--at least no listings of Tiffany or Debbie Gibson.

So for now I doubt this book will motivate me that much to investigate these albums, unless people here chime in--and even then, only a handful of albums I've never heard of--and I'm odd in that way, I'd rather have a book of the 1001 albums you may have never heard of--but of course a book like that will not sell (sigh).
