Postby gazebo » Mon Nov 12, 2007 1:48 am

WOW! Just received a phone call here at work regarding this crazy song.
Thanks for the update Dave.

A massive Thank You to Danielwaver for ending this mystery, was starting to think that it would never be solved.

Has anyone sent Rene this News ?
Holy Cow, if Danielwaver doesn't win "NWO Member of the Year" there needs to be a recount. He solves the longest running mystery on the site in addition to posting rare songs, no requests, etc.

Congrats DW!!!

Does this mean you're recanting your earlier nomination of SMoKaLoTaPoT?

Hey David, What's up ? It looks like most of Rene's tracks have now been solved.
I think this is the last of Rene's mind benders.
Kudos to Danielwaver for finally putting an end to this. I'm wondering if you would have also known the Eskimos & Egypt song that haunted the CFNY site for a couple of years.

Haha. Don't think I haven't thought that for real!

Just an update. Roy is a great guy and he took the time to tell me a little bit about the the song and when it was recorded. RCA made it a b-side, and I think we all here think it was an a-side worthy song. He says there is probably no mp3 of the song available to purchase. I'm going to purchase whatever I can of the band and I'm sure the rest of you might also try to at least find this song. There seems to be a few copies available.

I wanna thank Roy again for taking so much time out of his day to discuss this blast from his past with me, and as we assumed before we found out who it was, I don't think he ever would have expected this kind of buzz to have come about years later. You guys should really look into his new band The Truemen, it's good stuff!

PS Have I mentioned how great Danielwaver is lately?

Wow, kudos Danielwaver ...you've closed the book on the single longest-running mystery on this board! We've all been patiently--not to mention madly--waiting for that answer, wondering if it would ever materialize.

Now, I'm sure many of us are tripping over each other in the mad scramble to hunt down copies of White & Torch singles on eBay, Gemm, Musicstack, etc.

I'm sure we'd all love to see the singles compiled at some point and perhaps posted in the Obscure 80's section, but I think I speak for all when I say that we'd be happy just to have a complete MP3 of "Heartbeat".

Awesome job, my man![8D]

Thanks Danielwaver!! Now I can sleep at nite. [8D]

I have a really bad rip of Heartbeat and another song called Parade, very low quality, played them 2 1/2 years ago for a friend on my ipod during a visit. Funny we didn't catch it then.

Yes Mike is right!! [^] First thing this morning I purchased one along with a 12" of Parade for better quality. One more was available on ebay at that time and a few on Gemm. Soon as it arrives, if someone doesn't beat me to it I will post some White & Torch. [;)]

Thanks everyone for the kind words. [:)] But I feel bad as I think I have ruined the whole excitement. [:D] as one put it "what should we do now?" [:D]

Since this morning I have been through my archive of 80's on more than 100 CDR. I have found three of their singles but Heartbeat is still at large. I call it one "defiant" song. till now it had tried to remain obscure and now that I am trying to find and post it does not want to show up on any of the CDR [:(!]. But it will be sooner than later.... [;)]

Message from Rene:http://freenet-homepage.de/DeDiniDevil/wanted.htm

Hi,

many thanks for the info. I actually know White & Torch (I downloaded 2
tracks from "torchomatic" way back when rare mp3-tracks are available
without legal restrictions). The tracks are "Miracle (Extd.)" from 1983 and
"Bury My Heart (Extd.)" from 1984. These tracks aren't as good as
"Heartbeat" (or should I say "Stay (The second time around)" cos this is so
familiar for me). Please send my best wishes on the NWOutpost-forum cos I'm
not a registered user. Many thanks again.

Ciao René

Many thanks to Danielwaver for solving the mystery.

Of course like the rest of us, I would like a complete mp3 of the song "Heartbeat" which I will continue to call Stay (The Second Time Around). Will this be available for purchase anywhere? Can we send $ directly to the band somehow? -- because they deserve it for recording such a great song.

I did a google for "White & Torch" search and found this interesting post on myspace:

I remember Tontrix very well.
When I was in White & Torch we used to rehearse in Hambi's house - and I sang on one of his albums, Heartache, recorded at the Manor. Now that's well weird because it's the 2nd time today I've been reminded of that place. Bit of synchronicity going on :)

You still in Liverpool?

I spoke with Roy White of the band through myspace this morning. He said as far as he knows there was never any mp3 of Heartbeat, or any other White and Torch material available for purchase. The whole post is back a little bit.

He also mentioned that he thinks its the best song they did. RCA did not want to use a song from the album for the Miracles b-side, so they recorded it in a tiny studio with no budget. The song was written and recorded in one day. It was a great thing to wake up and check the board for any progress and then be talking to the artist about it within half an hour.
