What was your first job after high school?

I guess mine would be joining the Marines before I graduated. It wasn't bad once you got past boot camp.

I worked in an exotic car body shop. I primed fenders and hoods before they were painted. I actually started when I was 14 and continued up until the place packed up and moved across the country. I then was an apprentice draftsman for a surveyor who also packed up and moved.

Actually, ditch-digger. It sucked only slightly less. The high water table in many parts of SoCal required pool companies to manually finish digging them out. The wet mud was backbreaking, but that was one of the few times in my life I was in really great shape. This just triggered a memory of working on the pool of a very hot mom and daughter. I know many of you won't believe this story, but every word is true. One hot, sultry summer afternoon, they came out to the dig site wearing some very revealing bikinis, and well, one thing led to another and...yeah right. [B)]

Immediately after high school graduation, but before I went off to college, I was continuing my job as a grocery bagger at the local supermarket, as well as doing freelance artwork for a jeweler/ craftsman. When I got to college, I began working at the campus library, where I stayed partime throughout college. That library job was an awesome gig. Oh, and during all my summers of college, I slimed and gutted salmon at a remote Alaska fishery. Brutal, slimy, but oddly fun work.

Add remote Alaska Cannery to the list for me as well. Naknek, Alaska, unloading Salmon boats and general dock work, usually around 20 hours a day.

After high school I went straight to college but I continued to work in retail at the mall. Yeah Phil, [i]that[/i] mall [;)] But I began to pick up freelance design jobs almost right away. I continued this mix of retail and freelance until I graduated college at which point I was more than happy to stop working with the general public and just do design.

forget bagging groceries. I went straight for checker. The money was good at the time, AND I got benefits. I usually worked swing shift, so we got away with a lot of crap. Yes, we used to race shopping carts down the aisles and turkey bowl.

In the Marines I worked in the communication center and part of the graveyard shifts duties was buffing up the floors to look nice for all the bigshots when they showed in the morning. It was kind of like bullriding, you just had to look out for the cord wrapping around you, ouch.

You slackers just bagged and checked? I had my own aisle to stock and order at Big D Discount Supermarkets. I was entirely responsible for the soap, detergents, cleaners, etc.

It was actually the perfect job for my teenage years, since I was in my "everyone else in the world sucks" phase. I did my job well, so annoying managers just left me alone, just the way
I liked it.

A lot of fun driving a tank and all, but other than that and a few bucks for college, a complete and utter waste of time (for me anyways and during peace time, nothing against those serving now, they are heroes and truly appreciated).

Right out of high school I worked the same job I had been working from the beginning of h.s. At 13 years old I got a job at a local warehouse. They shipped industrial chemicals. I unloaded trucks and filled orders and stuff. When I graduated h.s. they made me boss. I worked there till they moved. Then it was "that" mall like Marv said.

Graveyard shift at 7-11.

I was officially the last caucasian guy to do it. You get to see a lot of drunk guys, a lot of guns and a lot of drunk guys with guns. I once had a guy walk in with two six shooters. He put them down on the counter and told me he had just gotten out of jail on drunk driving charges- "they let me take the guns but they kept my car".

I had two robbery attempts and one drunken guy claiming to be the son of J Paul Getty who tore the store apart because as he said- "you don't believe me!!"

And boobies, you see a lot of boobies.
