Top 100 New Wave Songs - 2007 edition (RESULTS IN)

Postby MikeP » Thu Nov 29, 2007 8:59 am

Hey gang, I think it's time to compile a new Top 100 list for 2007! I'd be curious to see how the list changes with the different board demographics. Board vets are welcome to submit their previous lists (by default if need be, like me last time![:I]) but I would highly recommend revisiting them to see if your perspectives have shifted. I know I will.

A couple points to iron out:

1) How to weigh the results? For the previous contests, Blir ('06) and Freewave ('05) both came up with their own point system.

Freewave's:
First 10 get 5 points
Next 20 get 4 points
Next 20 get 3 points
Last 50 get 2 points

Blir's:
7 pts to each top song
6 pts to songs 2-5
5 pts to songs 6-10
4 pts to songs 11-20
3 pts to songs 21-30
2 pts to songs 31-40
1 pt to songs 41-50

2) Who will do the number-crunchin'? I can certainly tally the lists but not being as statistically-savvy as the Blirmeister, I might defer to him for his analytical prowess and cool diagrams![8D]

Please submit your lists either by email to me or -- preferably -- to this thread so everyone can see them, enjoy them and laugh at them[;)].

All songs should be ranked 1-100 to the best of your ability ... not always an easy task when it comes to some of the music we love the most. Submit at least 50 songs but no more than 100.

Get your submissions in by Sunday Dec. 30 10PM PST please!

Ready ... get set ... Go! [by Tones on Tail][:D]

Time to crunch the songs... I think I only did a Top 50 as well as cubby and others, as we were newer members, and the Top 100 time had passed. Gotta start thinking... "Oh No, Mr. Bill!!!!"

This sounds awesome. I didn't compile a list during the previous tallies, but I might just give it a go this time.

Let us know when the call is officially up--will it be linked to this? I've actually downloaded and collected a number of rarities the past fifteen months or so, so I actually would have a different list--and I may list it honestly rather than trying to go for "popular" tracks. But I won't know until I've figured out my own list.

A couple of comments that might help you Mike. I think Freewave and I figured out that parsing out the lists to tabulate is a BITCH! Standardized formats will help immensely:

1. No Numbers in front your selections - they'll just have to parsed out anyway
2. No Spaces between your selections - ditto above
3. "Name" - "Song" - the order shouldn't change, mega ditto to above
4. You want a common seperator between "Name - Song", preferably a hyphen, not a comma, colon, or whatever else (trust me, this is a biggie)
5. Proper Spelling is an absolute - if you're going to use a pivot table to help sort the data, wrong spelling fucks it all up.

This might all seem pretty anal, but it's an impossible amount of data to manually tabulate.

Oh, and 6, if you want help tabulating, I'd be glad too...but then I get to pick the point system. You can't go about this willy-nilly! [8D]
