The position that morality is subjective is not ENTIRELY tenable. Would you suggest that one cannot judge the actions of the Nazis because that simply was the "way things were" in Germany at the time? Is morality SO subjective that one cannot judge the Holocaust as immoral?

The position of absolute moral subjectivity leaves humanity paralyzed and unable to take a stand against injustice and atrocity. Is THAT what you would claim as your categorical imperative, or do you agree that moral sujectivity is not absolute?

What's with you? You already said that you agreed on this "to a point". Why go back and harp on this?

The very fact that the Nazis did what they did and the subsequent Nuremberg Trials proves that morality is completely subjective. Different people, different attitudes. As a study in humanity, morality will always be subjective. In the original context of the statement, religion, nothing can be more true. What's religion if nothing more than a philosophy? Let the pope say what he wants. It's a subjective "truth" to himself and whoever wants to believe it. The Nazis thought they were "right" also. Again, if only to themselves. But that's hardly a defense in a court of law where people are on trial for crimes. I would never say that. And of course I would say the Holocaust was immoral because I wasn't socialized to believe that it [i]was[/i] moral. Stop trying to stick different issues on top of something we again, already got past. Maybe we should start another thread or take it off line.

Also, the Pope can and does say what he wants; but I have the right to disagree with him. (Because everyone has an asshole.) [:p] I wasn't trying to stick another issue on top of the first one, I was merely trying to make a point by example.

Let me try to clarify things and clean this thing up. Afterall, the poor dead horse doesn't need any more beatings. The point of my original "pet peeve" about the Spe Salvi was that people like the Pope espouse ideals that don't reflect the history or current behavior of the Church. It's pure "Jesus Movement" versus "Christian Movement", which are completely juxtaposed. So I guess I should have said, "People who say they are the followers of Jesus, but do not behave as Jesus would behave." I apologize for being too obscure.

Back to Driving 101...

Drivers who come up to a red light at an intersection and are STILL unable to stop their car before the limit line or crosswalk!

But if there was already a car waiting at the same red light, they'd somehow be able to stop their car before hitting the stopped car in front of them, right? Dipshits!

And what about drivers approaching a signaled intersection to make a right turn on a red light? Because of all the stopped vehicles at the intersection, you really don't know if there are any pedestrians in the crosswalk or not until you actually get there. But these fuckers blow past the stopped cars on their left and don't come to a stop until AFTER the crosswalk where they can better see the moving flow of traffic. Who the Hell cares if someone (on foot or in a wheelchair) is actually using the crosswalk at the time and is hit because the right-turn driver didn't stop at the limit line first? Fuckers! [:(!]

I've eased-up on my position of driving while talking. Now I despise speeders and texters.

And add smoking to the list of pet peeves.

Non stoppers -- you know the type. They never fully stop at a red light, instead they roll their car in anticipation of the light turning green. They're easily spotted as they are totally into the intersection while the light is still red.

Where are they going in such a hurry?

It's gotten a lot worse here in the past 5 years, and surprisingly it seems to be mostly old farts that do it.
