Bands with 2 or More Drummers

Postby SallyLightfoot » Tue Dec 04, 2007 10:43 pm

I can think of two from the 80's, and a few more if we extend the window from 70's - 90's.

Who can you come up with?

Ministry had two drummers, Martyn Atkins and Bill Rieflin, for The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste album and tour in 1989-90. The same two drummers worked together in Pigface in 1991.

Adam (and the) Ant(s) in at least one of his (their) incarnations used two drummers.

Not that anyone would know who they were, but local Minneapolis darksider band Dark Carnival had 2 simultaneous drummers.

King Crimson had two drummers on their most recent tour (don't know about the actual album), Bill Bruford and Pat Mastelotto.

They used two drummers for both the Kings Of The Wild Frontier and the Prince Charming period. I saw them a couple of times including an April, 1981 show at The Palladium in NYC. The acoustics in that building made the two drum sound very, very special.

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

I believe 38 Special had two drummers at the same time. Of course, other groups where the drummer is the main lead singer (Genesis/Phil Collins, Monkees/Micky Dolenz) have another drummer for concerts.

Yup, nice work, all.

The bands I was thinking of were Adam & the Ants, and .38 Special. Outside of the 80's, Gary Glitter, the Doobie Brothers, Genesis and a few others experimented with this lineup.

For a moment I thought that Ned's Atomic Dustbin had 2 drummers, but actually in this case it was 2 bassists.
