What about all those teams called the Vikings? I hate it when my Scandinavian ancestors are stereotyped as uncivilized pillaging rapists. Man, that really offends me.

While I was at York University in Toronto, the teams were known as Yeomen and Yeowomen. They have since become York Lions for a couple of reasons:

1) Most of the student body had no clue, as to what a yeoman actually was.

2)There was no such thing as a yeowoman and it was felt people were saying it as " Yo! ... Women!".

I think the Canadian Football League uses Yeomen for two of their teams now.
