[8D] Anyone from Seattle in the early 80's that can give me some stories about Steve Rabow and his House Party show on KYYX, It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Oh lordy.
Steve Rabow's House Party was the BEST. I'll never forget his zaniness and his forays into absolute creativity and just plain fun. He'd introduce his "Rabow Record Ranch and Cassette Corral" and off he'd go.
Yes, he'd play some of the usual staples. But Rabow was reknown for going beyond the pale, playing obscure releases, B-sides (this was my first introduction to the "roots" of new wave---the Stooges, the Flaming Lips, Velvet Underground, etc. Occasionally he'd play a record backwards. he dug out old commercials and clips from 50s & 60s & 70s movies, and splice that into his schtick. He'd mess around with voice vocoders. He'd tell jokes. He'd tell stories.
Most of all, Steve Rabow was very passionate about the new wave scene. He really knew his stuff. He'd share anecdotes about a musician's or a band's history. (For example, he knew about OMD's earlier incarnations, about Joy Division's Warsaw roots, stuff like that). He also supported local music. A LOT. It was his idea (from what I heard, anyway) to put out [i]Local Heroes and New Faces[/i], KYYX's compilation tape of local Pacific NW artists.
In a word, he was amazing. It was thru him and KYYX and general that I learned the most about NW.
April 1st, 1984 was the saddest day, the darkest cloud in my teenage days. RIP 96.5 "The Wave" ![:(]

Steve's show was awesome. I think he subtitled it "Adventure, Romance, Danger and Lust", if I recall. He always had the latest imports and wave remixes on his show. I was at his house once to meet him regarding a benefit dance he agreed to DJ, and was blown away by his wall of vinyl.
Are you still in touch with him? What's he up to? Is he selling off most of his collection?
P.S. I still have a local music magazine from 1980 featuring Rabow on the cover, with a cool interview. The interview is pre-KYYX when he was spinning new wave on smaller Pacific Northwest radio stations.

Yes, I am handling that, but my purpose here was to find out more about him personally and hear stories about his show.
I also used to do a show on KDUR in Durango, Colorado featuring live music that was coming to town (I also owned and booked the bands for The San Juan Room in Durango so I was interested in hearing more about Steve's days, get the flavor so to speak.
I will be posting much of his vinyl collection as well over the next few months but I'll be putting that information in the marketplace section of this forum, so check there if your interested in any of it.
Thanks for the comments so far, it sounds like I missed out on some good times in Seattle.

I checked out your link...the Stephen Rabow history on the KYYX Wave site is great. As stated, he was all about making radio fun! His "top ten records for 1983" list should give folks a good flavor of his musical taste...he played obscure stuff, but never shied away from a great Duran Duran or Thomas Dolby remix!

So totally true! He'd play some obscure song; say, something like the Android Sisters "Macho Robot". Then, the night version of "Planet Earth". Then, that [i]klaatu[/i] clip from [i]The Day the Earth Stood Still[/i] (you know, carryying along a "planet" theme.) Then, he'd laughed hysterically before launching into "Bop Girl".
His humor was a real draw. The other KYYX djs - Moose Moran, Beaver Bell, Debbie Paine, Damien - also had a good sense of humor. When one dj's shift ended and the other would begin, they'd trade jokes for a while & goof around.
Rabow was also a big force behind the creation of the short-lived [i]The WAVE[/i] magazine. I need to scan and post some sample pages. That mag was wacky fun !
