Mopamark's top 100 list prodded my memories of Carolyn Mas, who I had seen in concert at Town Hall (NYC) Dec 31, 1979.
Although the song he mentioned, Baby Please, is not one of my favorites, it is available as a free download on CM's web site (there is also a live video from 1980).

Standout songs for me are Stillsane, Sadie Says, and Snow. Kind of in a Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes vein.

Thanks Mr.Schwenko for the nod.I admit I have only had that lp for about five years but that track stands out for me.You gotta love a strong female voice,not sure if she is a native New Yorker but I sure loved the music from the late 70,s era from that city.

Back in the days when I actually went to record stores to buy vinyl, I used to see a Carolyn Mas lp everywhere...the one with the B&W picture of her wearing a top hat. I never bought it for some reason though.

I think I have Sadie Says in my Top 100. I loved that album, and a few other songs beyond that. I don't know if she would be considered power pop, but it sounds like it to me. I was suprised she never became very sucessful.

Yup.. SS clicks in at #36? on your list. Sorry I missed it the first time around. If you read the bio on her web site she details the horrible way her music was promoted and her problems with WNEW.

I haven't checked out her website yet.

I recall that Rolling Stone was calling her the "female Bruce Springsteen" which I thought was an awful thing to do & didn't even remotely describe her music. I think it pissed me off especially because Rolling Stone had such a hard-on for Springsteen & everyone was "the next Bruce"...ugh.

She got a lot of play at the college station I worked at & most of the kids I knew liked the album.
