<br>Well...as far as WLIR not being "punk", I agree, but remember...they didn't change to the new wave format until mid-1982 and, aside from hardcore and Oi!, punk was over. WLIR did have their weekly Midnight Riot show which featured hardcore. They also relentlously supported The Ramones and they even were playing Dead Rockers by Detention when that came out.

For Punk on NY airwaves, you have to go back to WPIX prior to their becoming "love songs, nothing but love songs" in early 1980...when they were "The New 102, From Elvis To Elvis". An aircheck or two from *then* would be greatly appreciated, but they're kinda hard to come by, it seems.

WPIX FM used to actually play "Max's Kansas City 1976" by Wayne County & the BackStreet Boys,I remember
Meg Greffen introducing "You Belong To Me" by Cherry Vanilla from the RCA UK import Venus D Vinyl album,
and they even played "Mangle Me" by yours truly(with The Psychotic Frogs);
now THAT was NY radio FOR REAL!

Without a doubt, Toyah. Although brief, it was as daring as NY radio got
We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.
