Shoot Em Up

The movie is so ridiculously over the top that its that good. I dont know the word for it but if you think movies like Crank and Hard Boiled look silly, you should see this film. I especially love the skydiving scene, its just too funny. The homage to Bugs Bunny is ingenious

In other news, I finally got around to watching Jess Franco's [i]Ilsa, The Wicked Warden[/i]. Not since [i]The Empire Strikes Back[/i] have I seen a sequel match the excellent of the premier film. This movie hits paydirt of every facet it purports to be. "Demented" doesn't even begin to cover it. Only a film such as "The Gestapo's Last Orgy" could top it[}:)]

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is still great even after thirty years. It was on the AMC Channel tonight.

The Edge with Alec Baldwin, Anthony Hopkins and the late great Bart the Bear. I really liked it a lot - maybe it's because I like everyone in it, or because I love watching giant bears terrorize people lost in the woods. The scenery was beautiful, the story was good, although it had no surprises. I'd recommend it!

And philly....there's squirrel trapping!

I was totally stoked to get my beloved Ovation TV back after it merged with IMF and, as a result, landed on the Dish Network channel slate (back when I had Time Warner Cable I had access to Ovation on the digital tier), and I was reminded of why I was so totally in love with that channel two nights ago when they aired this really fascinating movie called [i]Aria[/i]. It's a 1987 collaborative film containing ten little mini-films, done by different directors/filmmakers, portraying ten different operatic arias. They're almost like music videos for these opera pieces, but really really well made music videos. Anyway, I thought all of it was completely fascinating and absorbing and loved it. Next up in my list of must-sees is something completely different: [i]The Bucket List[/i]. Gotta see it.

Ridley Scott's "A Good Year" came on HBO HD. Pretty light fare but really well shot if you're into that sorta thing. Reminded me that it caused me to go on a self-important existential ramble the first time I saw it:

I'm sure it must be a good movie when viewed in the right light/frame of mind, but I could only get past one hour of it before I switched it off and went on to watch true crime shows on A&E[}:)] The movie was recommended by a co-worker of mine and I get the feeling he's got a.d.h.d. or something wrong (maybe I'm just being judgmental). Ironically, I was bored by this movie. I really shouldn't listen to his opinions about movies (shoulda been a dead give away when he said he liked [i]Amelie[/i]). I know what I like and most people have no clue how to pick a good movie[}:)][}:)]

It's actually a good flick. [i]Paced[/i] though, so you definitely have to be in the mood.
