How can the Cars not at least be on the list for consideration? I actually like the Knack better, but the Cars are kind of the embodiment of the new wave movement of late 70s, early 80s to me.

I'd have to go with New Order with Depeche Mode and The Cure on their heels (there was no intentional Robert Smith joke intended)

While I think Blondie is one of the top 5 NW bands of all time, they are more of a 70's band than an 80's band but their influence carried on through the 80's for sure.

Well, I have a ton of favorites that are not on the list but if I had to pick a band from that list that was the representative of the 80's I would go with the b52's Not my fav band but they were huge.
