Soooo, Super Tuesday came and went.

I'm interested, can any of you Americans explain to me in your own words what this fucking process is meant to accomplish and when will it end? Why don't all 50 states vote at the same time? What will CNN do to fill air time when this is all over? From the outside looking in, it would seem that all this campaigning and voting has consumed the equivalent of the GDP of a small european country.

Couldn't this all be done in one day over the internet or something?

In a perfect world or perhaps a nation with more common sense, zill. I think CNN was almost incensed that they had to break to report on the devastating tornadoes![xx(]

What are you so upset about? That Americans are spending their own money and time as they choose? Or that there is nothing interesting for you to watch on CNN?

Either way, STFU.

I've always looked at the relative complexity of the U.S. electoral process as a series of checks and balances designed to ensure that the right person is picked for the job...um, I might have to re-think that assumption.

STFU? Wow, I guess I hit a nerve. I was just asking a question about a long expensive process I don't understand, I didn't think I was getting upset, stormy. I actually find it quite fascinating.

Eight 6, maybe thinking of it as people holding their nose and vote for the lesser of two evils would clear things up for you

It could be worse...our system seems to be designed to find the person best able to kiss Quebec's hairy French ass.

Still? That's funny. I was at a seminar in Toronto probably 15-16 yrs ago and the sentiment of your comment just a while ago was the source for a skit at Second City Theater that night. I guess some things never change.

LMAO [:D]

I think I like our way better. Up in the polls? Call an election, anytime you want! Five, six weeks it's over. Down in the polls? Resign as Prime Minister have the party elect a new leader and let someone else lose (big time).

maximum money spent, maximum airtime, maximum ego-boosting and chest-puffing, all to get their names out there for people to digest, ponder, and formulate their opinions. But this process has begun MUCH too early, is rife with error, fraught with dangerous excitement, and I fear we're all going to be burnt out much too soon. By November, everybody will be sick of this (if they're not already). The galvanized masses will continue to vociferously stump for their candidate, ring doorbells, and blog furiously. Then, if their candidate has not won, they will go underground and lurk, grumbling viturperatively about how we're all doomed. Then, rumors and speculation will sprout about who is poised to run in '12 ! And wheee! We get to do it all again!

wait, what?

Glok, I'll believe it when my poll location shows up in the mail. We hear this all the time when we have a minority government. Last time was 3 years ago. We're due for a vote anyway. It gets us out of the house when it's freezing and gives us something to bitch about.

Always the pinnacle of excitement...which cardboard cutout to vote for?

Who in their right mind could vote for Dion? His English skills make me long for Johnny Crouton.

I don't think Dion could ever butcher the English language like Chretien. I think he has someone writing his speeches after some of these memorable quotes from Jean Chretien:

"I don't know. A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof, and when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven."

"Well, that is free trade!"

In response to a question about cross-border drug trade, in a news conference in front of Bill Clinton, having misheard a question about "drugs".

"It's like the story of the Hippo and the Zerba. That Hippo, he paint the stripe on him to look like the Zerba. But at the end of that day he still a Hippo."

In response to the Canadian Alliance, and Progressive Conservatives creating one party.

"I don't know what is marijuana. Perhaps I will try it when it will no longer be criminal. I will have my money for my fine and a joint in the other hand,"

A quote made jokingly in an interview with the Winnipeg Free Press.

"I'm the Prime Minister of a country of 28 million, he's the President of a country with 1.2 billion. I can't tell the Premier of Quebec or Manitoba what to do, how can I tell him what to do? Sometimes you just don't have enough influence." (Speaking about China)

"I don't know. What happened? If you don't know, The cameras were there. Some people came in my way, it might have been... I had to go, so if you are in my way, I am walking. So I don't know what happened. Something happened to somebody who should not have been there."

When asked for his explanation as to why he grabbed the demonstrator's neck.

"God gave me a physical defect, I've accepted that since I was a kid. When I was a kid people were laughing at me. But I accepted that because God gave me other qualities and I'm grateful."

God I miss the old days. Harper's such a knob.
