As for the gay thing ... my candidate (Ron Paul, the ONLY Republican I have EVER backed, btw) has basically the same position on gay marriage that your beloved Hilary does. I always wondered why there was even a discussion on the use of the word "illegal". For heaven's sakes, they're [i]illegal[/i] because they're here [i]illegally[/i]....as in they broke the law to get here and stay here! That discussion always kills me.

Anyway,
come on, people (I mean this in general, not anyone here specifically). I myself try not to stereotype all Republicans. Just the stupid ones in power. Demetri and SuNomi are right. Do we really need another conservative administration ? The intolerance shown to gays in this administration, the stripping away of a woman's right to choose, and the incomprehensible blockage of legislation surrounding stem-cell research (among other things) saddens and appalls me. This is not the stone age ! Dems tend to be more progressive on these issues. We need diplomacy in the House, not more saber-rattling. We are sooooo ready for some modern tolerance to be shown in our society, and another conservative administration will NOT do that.

They are all opportunists really. Unfortunately they all seem to hem towards the right when it comes down to the actual election. The dems are so afraid of pissing everybody off that they need to take a page from previous Republican strategies. Please your base first, that's the tail that wags the dog. Unfortunately the Left have let the Right define them and control the political lexicon for so long now that appealling to their base is seen as unpatriotic while compromise is percieved as weakness. Heh, good one Blir. I never, ever liked a single thing about that guy Romney. I thought there were more than a few stretches in his withdrawal speech...and some of it just rang transparent. The guy dumped some 35 million of his own dollars into a campaign that put him in a very dismal second place. He did what any intelligent business person would do, plain and simple - he quit. I did love seeing Giulliani rip into him during some of the debates though.

I might add that the absurdist statements of Limbaugh & Coulter threatening to campaign for Hillary is the first salvo in forcing McCain to choose a hardline running mate. Watch how the Maverick Straight-Talking former POW caves into the demands of the most extreme of his party. This is Bush Mach 3. Both Leiberman & Huckabee seemed like logical choices but I think he'll have to choose someone closer to the current regime. Someone young and status quo. Someone well-respected & ambitious. Someone who is an ace-in-the-hole for their next presidential election...Condi.
