That is so cool that so many of your old friends were there. I go to most shows by myself. None of my friends are into this kind of music much ! Because I do not live anywhere near all my old friends---those who'd be into these bands today---I go solo a lot. If shovelbum and I lived in the same city, for example, she'd be checking out all these shows with me ! Very rarely can I drag Mr. KYYX along.
However, when it comes to reggae & dub, not only does my husband come along, but lots of other friends, too. It depends who's playing.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!

Yo Glok, that concert was everything you billed it to be. Really glad I saw the reviews and got motivated to go. My calves are freakin' BURNING from all the pogo'ing. Just an absolutely exurberant experience - pure pure fucking energy from start to finish. This was my first time at the Great American Music Hall - a classic place, great crowd, good sound. Man, you really don't miss a thing by not having Weller there - just get a guy with the same accent and blammo...it's the Jam.

Highlights for me were In the City (of course), This is the Modern World, David Watts, 'A' Bomb, Tube Station, Strange Town, and the fantastic encore of The Gift and Town Called Malice (and one more track that I can't remember). I really don't give Malice enough credit - what a great great fucking song. I guess it's popularity has led me to take it for granted. A shame though. "Ghost of a steam train, echoes down my track" has to be one of the most memorable lyrics in new wave.

Don't miss this if it's coming through your town. I was a bit cynical at first, but it's a must see IMHO.

Great talking to you the other night! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself... Anyone in Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, New York, Alexandria, Atlanta, Dallas... A must-see high-energy show...

Russ stated that their new album/CD will be released end or March or May, one of the months starting with the letter "M"--I can't recall, as I was too buzzed/drunk at the time...

Hope your calves and thighs are not hating life right now... I took 800mg of Motrin 4 times a day for four days straight!

Went to the Vancouver show at Richards On Richards this past Saturday night.

F*CKING FANTASTIC!

For a kid who grew up in Nowhere, Canada this was a dream come true. The Jam broke up a year before I got into them...so I never dreamed of ever seeing them.

The venue was sold out, the stage level was mostly the 40+ crowd with the under 30s hanging out on the upper level (usually the other way around!). Hugh Cornwall's set was pretty good...mind you, I was never a Stranglers fan so I only recognized "Nuclear Device"! But From The Jam tore the house down. The set-list for the North American shows looks to be pretty standard...but the boys had such a fabulous time that they did 3 encore songs. I totally called it pre-show with a prediction of opening with "In The City " & closing with "Town Called Malice!

I got a bit concerned with the pogo/mosh pit...there looked to be some folks in there on their way to a broken hip or two! But the energy was unbelievable! The boys finished with a promise of a return visit (of which I don't doubt, this tour has definitely been a HUG success for the group)!

On a side note...it has to be said that The Jam were most definitely a "boy's band"...the audience was a ratio of about 30 men to each woman! And that statistic was gathered by my female companion!

I was at both the HoB and El Rey shows (not sure I agree with your friend Dennis; HoB is too sterile and the El Rey audience was well up for it), and kept a running list (and did not drink). The actual set list for both shows was:

Hry thanks for posting the set list, you got it right--I was totally wasted, and didn't sober up until the ride home... And that Sat. morning I was hurting while writing/posting up the review and set list, so yeah, I turned some songs around and added some I thought I heard... too many beers and shooters, my friends were buying up a storm! [:p][B)][8D]

Just got in From the Jam in Arlington, VA. Exact same set as that posted earlier by Riot Nrrrd. Great show! Hastings was very credible in the role of the irreplacible Weller. Nice how they open the show with the title track of each of the first three albums in chronological order. By the fourth song, I was sure that I was going to hear the title track from Setting Sons.

Hugh Cornwell did an energetic set as well, including "Get a Grip on Yourself", "Don't Put Me on a Slow Boat to Trowbridge", "Nice 'n' Sleazy", "Peaches", "Hanging Around", "Hot Cat on a Tin Roof", "Bear Cage", "Delightful Nightmare", and "No More Heroes".

By the way, amazing pictures, Frank, especially the one where you caught Foxton in mid-scissor kick. He only did five all night at our show, so you must've been pretty keen to catch him at it.

Thank you all for your kind words about my photos. It was a real treat to be able to photograph one of my favorite bands of all time...

As for the scissor-kicks... I was so glad he still does them! And I was on the lookout for them all night!
