And probably Charlie Don't Surf, Somebody Got Murdered, and Straight to Hell as well! [:X]

My personal favorite remains:

there's a smile on my face for everyone
there's a golden coin that reflects the sun
there's a lonely place that's always cold
there's a place in the stars for when you get old

Thank God this thread was resurrected because I have been seriously obsessing over the following line and I think I might have embarrassed myself by starting a whole new thread just to celebrate it:

"If you can't enjoy yourself, who can you enjoy?"
- from the Suburban Lawns' "Enjoy"

The whole song is full of similar lyrics and is just so much fun, but that lyric is what's standing out in particular in my mind at this time.

Edit to say I nearly forgot about another priceless line from the same song: "And if the world should end today, I wanna be able to say that I went out with a smile!" God, what an awesomely fun lyric.

Pretenders – Middle of the Road

I'm not the cat I used to be,
I've got a kid, I'm thirty-three baby

Soft Cell - Frustration

I have life
I have cage
I'm going bald
I want to tell the world
I've done nothing
I've achieved nothing
I work for a firm
But I want to burn it down, down
I am so ordinary

The The - This is the Day

You could've done anything, if you'd wanted
And all your friends and family think that you're lucky
But the side of you they'll never see
Is when you're left alone with the memories
That hold your life together like – GLUE

Go-Betweens – Right Here

I know you're 32
But you look 55
You walk around
With your eyes wide open
But you're barely alive

Gang of Four – I Love a Man in Uniform

To have ambitions was my ambition

Breaking logs in the hot sun
I fought the law and law won
I needed money coz i have none
I fought the law and law won

I left my baby and i feel so fine
i guess my race is down
Coz shes the best girl that i ever had
I fought the law and law won

"You either shut up or get cut up, they don't wanna hear about it
It's only inches on the reel-to-reel
And the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools
Tryin' to anaesthetise the way that you feel"

It's in the order of their hedgerows
it's in the way their curtains open and close
it's in the look they give you down their nose
all part of decency's jigsaw I suppose

Heard the neighbour slam his car door
don't he realise this is respectable street

What's done has been done
And I won't be the one
Who despairs in a wheel chair resigned to "If Only"
No I'll stand up again and I'll run
I'll jump up til I touch the sun
I won't be the one to be bound by the sound of "If Only"

She's vegetarian except when it comes to sex.
She's strictly ad-lib except when she consults the text.

Both from 'Unzip' by ABC.

Lots of The The quotes - very nice!

'Take me by the hand, and walk me to the end of the pier
Run your fingers through my hair and tell me what I want to hear
Will lies become truths in this face of fading youth
From my scrotum to your womb - your cradle to my tomb'

- Infected

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (My wife's, actually)

Don't you know that a punching bag
It don't feel any pain
And I know that it's all my fault
So I'll try not to complain
And a heart can only break
So many times
So why do you feel the need
To see what you can do to mine

School Of Fish - Euphoria

When you think you've tried every road
Every avenue
Take one more look
At what you found old
And in it you'll find something new

Depeche Mode - One Caress

To be accurate, "I Fought The Law" was written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets and turned into a smash hit by The Bobby Fuller Four in 1965. That many people only know The Clash version is a testament to how great of a cover they did!

Here's another I like:

"Time's gonna make you a man someday
And you won't want to go out and play with your friends
You'll just sit at home and watch News At Ten
And the pubs'll be closed and you won't have been with your friends"

News At Ten- The Vapors
