I must be honest: I owe the discovering of this to so many years watching record sleeves. The other day I came by chance across in a old record's sale a copy of The Hitmen's "Torn together" LP. No idea who they were, but the year, the look and the mint conservation of the copy made me risk the...less than 3$... they asked for it. A great decission. From then on I've searched for information, I've seen it's a really new wave "obscuro", it seems never re-released in cd, and, what is mor interesting, is a great new wave record, especially in its A side. These song is outstanding so since I'm just discovering the band I link it for some other people not leaving so much time as me without knowing it.

BTW, it was a Spanish edition! I really wonder who was going to buy this in Spain in 1981, even released with a major...

Agreed; fantastic group, sadly neglected. Alan Wilder was a member. Not to be confused with the Australian group with the same name. Bates Motel was released on cd on a compilation years ago

The record is really fine and don't sound dated at all. I guess you'll enjoy the -not that much- information you will find on the www. There's even a nice diary-text from an American guy related with the music of this band in here:

I'm really happy I found it, together with some 7" from Radiators (a.k.a. Radiators From Space), Any Time, The Pop, A Flock Of Seagulls, Landscape and quite a few else.

I believe I did, too. It wasn't "Bates Motel" that sold me; it was "Guess Who." "Aim for the Feet" has taken a lot of flak for its by-the-numbers production (and no argument that "Torn Together" is better-produced), but nothing can take away from that song. They also have a non-LP single, "Ouija," which is pretty decent.

Ben Watkins slayed his old band on the forum for his current band. Tsk, tsk.

Me too, although Bates Motel was the song that got me, and remains one of my favorites. I think it even made my Top 100 this year.

I remember that Mtv played Bates Motel. It wasn't in constant rotation, but was on enough.

Thanks for the post on this lp.I,d forgotten about this band and immediately found one on good ol ebay for four bucks.Sorry for my lack of posts lately as I have been searching deep for sleaze/glam rock lps of the 80,s early 90,s period befor they become pricey as some New Wave lp,s have.
