Severed human feet a mystery for Canadian police
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Police have found themselves with the gruesome mystery of why three human feet have washed ashore on islands in the Strait of Georgia on Canada's Pacific coast over the past six months.
Investigators do not know who the victims were, when they died, or if foul play or an accident was involved.

The cases all involved right feet, and the decomposing remains were still wearing sneakers.

"It is not known at this time what relationship, if any, this (third) foot has with the two feet recovered last year in the same area," the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement.

The first two were discovered in August and the third was found on February 8. Each was found on a different island in the Strait of Georgia, which separates the mainland and the city of Vancouver from Vancouver Island.

DNA testing on the feet found in August failed link them to any missing person cases. The third foot is awaiting testing.

Failed attempts at getting off on the right foot I'd say.

In other news... three people, each with a severed foot, have recently visited local hospitals for emergency care.

Ironically, all are named Eileen.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Another severed human foot has been discovered washed ashore on Canada's Pacific coast, but police are no closer to solving the gruesome mystery.

The foot, still wearing a shoe, was discovered on Thursday on a small uninhabited island south of Vancouver in the Strait of Georgia, and is the fourth discovered in the region in the past 10 months.

The previous cases all involved right feet still in sneakers, and each was found on a different island.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have not said if the latest discovery was a right or left foot.

DNA testing has failed to link the earlier discoveries to any missing person cases.

This case is not related to the other. This foot was wearing a shoe. The others in sneakers. No connection at all.

Five!

5th foot found on B.C.'s south coast
Last Updated: Tuesday, June 17, 2008 | 1:52 AM ET Comments111Recommend104CBC News
Delta police Const. Sharlene Brooks talks to the media about a mysterious left foot that was found submerged near Westham Island Monday. (CBC)A human foot was discovered partially submerged in the water near Westham Island in Ladner, B.C., Delta police said Monday.

It's the fifth human foot police have found in the province in less than a year.

"As far as it being linked to other partial remains found, we haven't dismissed that. We're considering all possibilities," Const. Sharlene Brooks told CBC News.

A couple out for a walk in the 2800 block of Savage Road spotted a shoe floating in the water around 10:30 a.m. and called police, she said.

Investigators said it's a left foot.

"Right now we're working very closely with the B.C. coroners service to identity the person whose remains we have recovered," Brooks said.

Four right feet, each wearing a sock and sneaker, have been discovered in the province since August.

A woman's right foot was found on the uninhabited Kirkland Island in the Fraser River in May, just a few kilometres from Westham Island where Delta police found the fifth foot Monday.

Three other men's right feet washed up in the Gulf Islands between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. In August, feet were discovered on Gabriola and Jedediah islands and, in February, another foot was found on Valdez Island.

B.C.'s chief coroner told CBC News Monday night that investigators have been unable to determine who the four right feet belonged to.

Terry Smith said DNA profiles have been completed on the feet but no matches have been made.

"We'll continue to try and identify known profiles that we can compare them to until we have a match," he said.
