Glad I'm not the only one. I thought the same thing. I just finished watching it. Javier Bardem was just so bad you wanted him to die some slow death.

"Across the Universe" - this was supremely excellent. Great cameo performances by Joe Cocker and even Bono. Great leads in Even Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess. Really well shot. [i]Most[/i] any music fan should see this. [anti-Beatles partisans need not apply [;)] ]

This weekend, I watched [i]Dead Or Alive: Hanzablahblahblah[/i] directed by Miike Takashi (same guy who directed [i]Koroshiya 1[/i], one of the most violent movies I have ever seen). This movie did not fail to meet my expectations of outrageous violence[}:)] I also saw [i]Romper Stomper[/i] (totally awersome[}:)] ), and Raoul Walsh's [i]White Heat[/i] from 1949 (James Cagney... old and a fatty wombatty, but, man, that was the best I've seen from him![}:)][}:)][}:)] ). One of the best heist movies I've seen since J.P. Melville's [i]Le Cercle Rouge[/i]. Tarantino's got nuthin' on anyone[}:)]

Watched Romy and Michele's High School Reunion last night on cable. I'd forgotten how goofy it was.

Saw "There Will Be Blood" last night. The film is about greed and self-loathing. It was pretty intense and entertaining. Daniel Day Lewis should win best actor for his 2.5 hour non-stop performance. The ending will upset a lot of religious folks.

"We Own the Night". Phew, very intense. Not a big Joaquin Phoenix fan, but he was excellent in it. Good background music too - Heart of Glass, Magnificent 7, Modern Love, Message to You Rudy, and Rapture from what I can remember.

Finally got around to Netflixing Superbad, it had it's moments overall it was alright.

"La Vie En Rose".

I admit that I decided to watch this movie because I'm nuts about the actress Marion Cotillard. But holy shit, there isn't the tiniest bit of her glamour in this movie. Cotillard's performance as French singer Edith Piaf is FUCKING INCREDBLE. It's too bad the movie didn't really keep up with her performance. It's hard to recommend because it's hard to sit through the whole thing. If you work yourself up for it though, I think you'll be blown away the acting, especially if you've seen the very charming Cotillard in anything else - it won't be anything like it.

Just finished watching Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten. Don't know quite what to think of it. Nice early concert clips. Bored me silly in some spots. I really could care less what Johnny Depp, Flea, Matt Dillon and John Cusack thought of him. Obviously more interesting were the interview clips with Topper Headon and Mick Jones. Yet overall it was interesting to see where he came from to become who he was.
