Bye-Bye Netscape

Saturday is the end of the road for the program that's probably more responsible than any other for us sitting here reading this forum:

I remember being blown away when Andreeson's new program replaced NCSA Mosaic. Who remembers this: [8D]

True enough about Netscape, but I'm feeling kind of like when I hear about some forgotten actor dying and thinking, "I thought he died a long time ago."

Its proud child (or is it grandchild after "Mozilla/SeaMonkey"?), FireFox still lives on, and I'm thankful for it--IE7 still has the oddest problems.

The very first time I ever went online I remember using Netscape 2.0. After that I used whatever AOL's proprietary browser was (think it was based on Netscape technology) and then IE, until I discovered/learned what a security hazard that was, and then I switched back to Netscape until that system couldn't handle it anymore, and then after getting a new system altogether I installed Netscape but ended up going for Firefox, which is what I've continued to use to this very day. Amongst all of that (which = a time span of a little over 10 years [God I'm old]) I always had a soft spot in my heart for Netscape and am so super-glad that Firefox is based on it. Farewell, Netscape, you served us well. You may have lost the battle but you've won the war.

I said bye-bye to Netscape after using version 4.0x crasheroo. It took them like six or seven revisions before they finally got it to stop crashing.
