Duran Duran - North American tour (updated)
Category: Music

Duran Duran roll out their 2008 RED CARPET MASSACRE North American Tour with Citi®

Tour Kicks Off April 29th in Vancouver, Canada

(See link farther down for update on pre-sales)

Hot on the heels of an unprecedented 10-show run on Broadway and the release of their latest critically acclaimed studio album – RED CARPET MASSACRE (Epic Records) – musical innovators Duran Duran today announced details of a 22-date North American tour that will begin in Vancouver, Canada on April 29 and end in New York with two spectacular concerts at Central Park’s Summerstage at the end of May.

The upcoming shows will mark the band’s second stint in the U.S. since the release of their twelfth studio album, the first being a Broadway residency at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre that heralded the record’s release in mid-November. In a bold move, Duran Duran performed RED CARPET MASSACRE in its entirety to sold-out houses every night for two weeks on The Great White Way, prior to the album’s global launch. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response from fans and critics alike, the band are now taking a tailored version of this three-act show on the road around the world, starting in New Zealand, where they will kick off the tour at the end of this month.

Tickets for all of the shows on this upcoming run will go on sale to the public on Saturday March 15th at 10.00 am (local time) through all of the usual outlets. Prior to that, Citi® (who also presented the band’s Broadway residency) will be offering cardmembers a pre-sale opportunity for all of the U.S. dates (excluding Vancouver and the Bahamas), starting Wednesday, March 12th at 9.00 am EST. Cardmembers should visit www.privatepass.citi.com for details.

Members of Duran Duran’s fan community will also have access to pre-sale tickets and VIP packages through www.duranduranmusic.com starting on Wednesday 12th March at 9.00 am EST. (This includes the two shows outside of the U.S., in the Bahamas and Canada.)

RED CARPET MASSACRE marks an all-time creative high for the band, who wrote and recorded this groundbreaking album with producers Timbaland and Nate ’Danja’ Hills, alongside today’s reigning king of pop, Justin Timberlake. Garnering them some of their best reviews to date, RCM has been described as "… a stroke of lightning captured on record … a triumph, a marvel, and a hell of a lot of fun." (Nylon Magazine); while others have declared that "sexy is back … and it’s got a posh English accent" (Blackbook).

During an illustrious career spanning three decades, Duran Duran have remained at the forefront of popular music, consistently pushing the creative envelope and breaking new ground. Since their inception, the band have sold over 70 million albums, recorded countless hit records, received numerous accolades, and have been presented with no fewer than five prestigious "Lifetime Achievement" awards since 2002 (MTV Video Music Award, Q Magazine, The BRITS, Ivor Novello, Spanish Ondas).

Speaking from their studio in London, where the band are currently in the middle of tour rehearsals, Duran Duran front man Simon LeBon said today how delighted they were to be continuing with their partnership with Citi® who are now at the forefront of entertainment experiences for cardmembers. "They were an incredible partner for us on the Broadway shows and we are extremely pleased that they are on board for this first U.S. run," he said. "These are going to be extremely exciting shows for us – taking a very different format to the last world tour we did in 2006. We are introducing a lot of new elements to the show both musically and in terms of the staging. We have been working on completely different arrangements for some of the older material and will be integrating a lot of our latest record into the performances. We need to keep things fresh – not only for ourselves, but also for our audiences, who can be assured of a lot of surprises with this new production."

Just got back from an amazing night @ the Hard Rock(Joint) w/the Duran boys........OMFG!!!! they put on an amazing show, just superb from beginning to end. Simon sounded great, they all sounded tight, just a great show all around. I thought the opening band, "Your Vegas", was going to suck? HOLY COW! DID THEY NOT SUCK!!!! They were fantastic too, sounded like a cross between Echo & the Bunnymen and Michael Hutchence,(which I liked, as Im a huge E&TB fan) yes, they were THAT GOOD. They have some great music too. They will be big, I just know it, a total 80s vibe going on.

They(DD) encored w/Rio, and I didnt have time to write down all the songs, but they did an "electro like" medley in the middle, which was wonderful. They did all the usual suspects, and did Wild Boys(I'm told they didnt do that the night before). I was hoping for Union Of The Snake, but they didnt do it. I wasn't disappointed in the least bit. They also seemed more chatty and happy, as i was told the night before, they didn't seem too into it.

All in all, as I said, a great show, the place was PACKED too. Not much room to breathe and the crowd was into it too.
