Your LEAST Favorite Decade of Music

Starting from the beginning of 50's Rock'n'Roll to today, what decade is your LEAST favorite for music ?

lol , I would hope not. Myself , I went with the 1990's. The decade started out ok but by the mid 90's , for the most part , I lost interest.

The 2000's bite. I'm seriously hard pressed to find more than a handfull of <EM>songs</EM> I like, much less a handfull of <EM>bands</EM> I like.

Even without 80's bands such as U2, The The, DM, TFF, INXS, R.H.C.Peps or The Cure crossing over into the 90's, they (the 90's) still had new bands like Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, AIC, Soundgarden, Live, 311, Tool and Stone Temple Pilots... Hell, even Bush and Dishwalla each had a decent cd/album.

But then again all the above is mainstream, pablum crap. None of it is from underground, sub-culture, obscure bands that seems to be so popular here.

But the 2000's still suck so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. [:D]

I had to go with the 2000's. While the early '70's was dreadful, it certainly got better by 1976. The '50's and '60's were, at least, creative. The 90's would fall into a close second behind the current decade but there were high points (I liked the whole Manchester scene of The Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans, etc).



We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

My thoughts exactly. The early 90's with HM, Inspirals, James etc were great. Then Nirvana showed up blah.

Then, there was the California retro-punk scene. Rancid had some good stuff and Green Day was good when they stayed away from ballads.

It was hard but I had to go with the 50's, even though most of the 60's sucked ass. I love these topics ... it's always amusing to see the prematurely geriatric among us bitching about how there's been no good music since 1986.

It was a toss-up between the 50s and 70s, but I went with the 70s. Too much progressive rock wankery, sensitive singer-songwriters, and me-too disco. Let's not forget what the early punks and new wavers were rebelling against.

Hmmm. I got a comment from a fellow forumite that he thought I was calling Dave a "tool". Just for clarity, I wasn't. It was simply my own opinion that Tool was a weak example in support of the 90s. Apologies for the over-short reply...but not for its content. I meant only to imply what motors said after, that it's not time to keel over on the music scene yet.

Thankfully, my posts rarely suffer from ambiguity or mis-interpretation...but come to think of it, being direct generates its fair share of e-mail as well.
