New R.E.M.

Has anyone else listened to it?

I'm sort of shocked at how much I like it. I really expected another crappy album.

Standouts for me are "Living Well Is the Best Revenge," "Supernatural Superserious" and "Until the Day is Done."

Wow. It's like Christmas lately--first the new B-52's album and now this one. [:)]

I like it, too, way better than the awful Around The Sun. I hear elements of Monster, Document, and even Reckoning in a few of the songs.

Favorites are "Living Well Is the Best Revenge" and "Accelerate". Least favorite - "I'm The DJ". My biggest complaint: the album is WAY too short (clocks in at 36 minutes). A pleasant surprise, and R.E.M. sounds re-energized on this one.

The length surprised me, too. But, if you buy the album on iTunes, you get some bonus songs--so I guess that sort of makes up for it.

Because it is their money, their choice, and they like it. Sounds like 3 decent enough reasons to me.

I love R.E.M...especially "murmur","reckoning" most of their excellent B-sides (V.U./Reed covers) ,and (surprisingly) the "Out of time"L.P.

...in other words, like U2 they are sporadically genius's...i'll check this out hoping to forget Stipes pompous transgressions of the recent past...

Thanks for the reviews. I can't wait to get this. I also liked Around The Sun.

Boy. For a site with so many would be comdians, there's a serious lack of anything funny.

This was the first REM album I thought about skipping - I've purchased each one upon its release starting with Murmer in '83. What with all the good reviews I changed my mind and snagged a copy on the way home from work. Will be looking forward to giving it a spin...although I have to admit I am not into the cheapo paper packaging.

The new album is excellent - not a single dud on it. It's a rocker from start to finish.

Yes, I was avoiding this but snagged it anyway and I must admit after listening to many of their recent albums... this new one is actually their best since Automatic. Unlike the last three albums this is a real change up for them... Sounds like the old REM on a few tracks... and overall it has played quite nicely the last week or so in the Ipod.
