What movie did you see last night 2

Road to Perdition (which was actually on TV). Well-acted. Tom Hanks was not as annoying as usual. I think Tom Hanks is a really good actor, but much of the time I think he is too self-aware and earnest, which bugs me for some reason.

Not really. I sat through it because I had to, really. The special effects were good in some places (wooly mammoth scenes) and not so good in others (mutant ostriches, saber-tooth tiger). I guess it was better than "300." I felt asleep during that one [:D]

I can deal with a lot of cheese, but "10,000 B.C." was too cheesy for me. The dialogue was dumb, the acting was bad, and the voiceover guy was irritating.

I finally got around to seeing Grindhouse: Death Proof, which despite all the negative reviews, I actually enjoyed. Kurt Russell and Rose McGowan were great (especailly Rose [:p]).

I'd never even heard of the band that Jungle Julia called the radio station and requested. Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich? How were they not huge in the States when the first eight seconds of just this one song is better than the entire Beatles discography?

The other night, on The Movie Channel, the wife and I watched perhaps the worst movie ever made:

It was a true car wreck. Could not turn it off, no matter how painful. Disturbing images of Steve Guttenberg and Bruce Jenner in cut off short-shorts are forever imprinted in my brain.

We finally finished watching on DVD ... HBO's fabulous Rome series that only lasted 2 yrs. Fantastic stuff, especially if you're an ancient Rome geek like I am.

Iron Man.

The movie is action driven as opposed to character driven. The personalities are thin as one might expect. But just because it is based on a comic book doesn't necessarily mean there can't be depth.

Jeff Bridges comes off as a bad guy parody rather than bringing any real menace to the role. Gwenyth Paltrow's considerable acting talent is wasted as Downey's one dimensional sidekick. And Downey is likeable enough but the movie is too busy throwing special effects and explosions at us to allow space and time for any real human feeling to come through.

When you can't connect to the characters on an emotional level, you are much less involved and interested. That's the downfall of many current action movies re: the latest installment of Pirates Of the Caribbean, Spiderman.

Iron Man borrows some of its ideas from Robocop and Alien. Wanted to love it, so I'm disappointed.

Just got back from Iron Man. Wasn't looking for any Academy Award performances and certainly didn't get any but it was entertaining. Without Robert Downey as Tony Stark it would have been a lot less entertaining though.
