Last 20 Played - KROQ Playlist?

Postby Frau_Blucher » Tue Apr 01, 2008 12:38 am

Does anyone keep a KROQ-specific playlist? Or for that matter, a CFNY, LIR, or whatever other one that just seems peculiarly specific to that station moreso than generic new wave? The reason I ask is that I flew into LAX last night, popped on my iPod to my KROQ playlist, and could swear that I traveled back in time as I flew down the 405. I was ecstatic - couldn't believe the songs that were coming on (even though I'd put 'em there)!

1. Suburban Lawns - Mom and Dad and God
2. Bow Wow Wow - Chihuahua
3. The Untouchasbles - Lebanon
4. Sparks - I Married a Martian
5. Lloyd Cole & the Commotions - Perfect Skin
6. Phil Seymour - Baby It's You
7. The Stranglers - The Man They Love to Hate
8. Maurice & the Cliches - Softcore
9. 3-D - X-Ray Eyes
10. Blancmange - Feel Me
11. Human Sexual Response - Pound
12. Oingo Boingo - Louise
13. The Firm - Radioactive
14. The Plimsouls - Now
15. The Bangles - Want You
16. Troy Tate - Sorrow
17. Klondike Karl - Time Is a Ticky Talk
18. Little Girls - The Earthquake Song
19. Slow Children - Spring in Fialta
20. The Clash - Know Your Rights

No, I don't have a KROQ playlist, but the mention of it brought back a memory of my friends who worked at the local new wave station (in Orem, Utah of all places). Every month or so they'd drive down to LA with a special playlist ripping device. This was a combination cassette recorder/FM receiver that would come on for about 20 seconds every 4 minutes. They'd stay for a day or two and fill up several tapes. They'd come home with a pretty good idea of what KROQ was playing, and imitate it to a large degree. I don't know what they did if something they couldn't identify came on. Probably we never got to hear it here. Yes, KROQ's influence went well beyond the range of its transmitter.

I have a 'David Marsden' playlist with close to 2000 tracks - he was behind CFNY in its heyday and now has a show on 94.9 The Rock near Toronto. Here's the last 20 I've listened to from that playlist - definitely broader playlist than just 80's new wave!

Rock & Roll Stew - Traffic
They're Coming To Take Me Away, HA-HAAA! - Napoleon XIV
Peaches - The Stranglers
Running Like The Wind - Marshall Tucker Band
Werewolves Of London - Warren Zevon
Gothic Girl - The 69 Eyes
Lottery Winners On Acid - The Crimea
My Sharona - The Knack
I Want To Take You Higher - Sly & The Family Stone
Be A Guy - Spirit Of The West
Rock On - T.Rex
Justified & Ancient (12 inch mix) - KLF
No Way - David Gilmour
Johnny, Are You Queer? - Josie Cotton
Introduction - Gracious
Layla - Eric Clapton
I Will Buy You A New Life - Everclear
Astral Weeks - Van Morrison
You Move Me (One Good Reason) - The Comsat Angels
Tears & Pavan - The Strawbs

Also, I started a blog that includes playlists from David's show as well as mp3's of some of the out-of-print tracks he plays. That blog is located at: www.marsbartheatre.blogspot.com
